this strain seems so far to infect the younger and healthierThis was also true of the 1918 pandemic, one reason it was so devastating.
One of the present theories is that the flu turns the body's own immune system against the body. Young, healthy adults with a strong immune system are therefore more susceptible than children and older people.

People were harder back then. If you contracted TB or another contagion it was goodbye so long. They had these places called sanitariums. Most everyone lost someone to a contagious disease.

WHO and CDC know more than they are saying. If it was as serious as they are openly fearing it is, they would be down playing the threat. They would be trying to calm the public and prevent and over-reaction when it really heats up (if they thought it really would heat up).
Like the pirate circus, I think this is another distraction.

Man, if I were a lazy terrorist group, that’s what I’d do. Get to Mexico. Easy. Spread it around a few cities. Easy. Sit back on the beach with a cool drink and watch our open border policy spread it around the USA.

Cue Dont Fear the Reaper. Back in the bad '70s, I knew a doper kid who thought the words were "Don't fear the reefer." [^)
Until I explained it, he had no idea who or what the Grim Reaper was! But those were the days when we thought "Time keeps on slippin' into the future" was, like, really profound, man!

it is strange that it vigorously affects males 25-44.
The bioterrorism route sounds plausible.

terrorists have been given yet another bright idea for attacking us Please tell me you are not suggesting they havent thought of this on their own and that by reading this thread light bulbs went off in their heads on how they can kill the infidels by the millions.

Here's my take:
Influenza A viruses mutate constantly and many human-avian-swine recombinants are known to exist in nature.
The molecular skills to engineer a virulent triple recombinant would challenge our best scientists, and it's unclear that even they could do it, ever.
The idea that ragheads in a cave could do this is ridiculous.
I vote for normal evolution.

I doubt this is bioterrorism. But keep in mind to cripple this country, a viral or disease outbreak does not need to have a high mortality rate. At any given time during flu season, there are no free hospital beds in most big cities, let alone ICU beds. Now add to that tens of thousands of people sick enough to seek medical care/need hospitalization, and the system would break overnight. Then add the gross inefficiencies of nationalized health care and... poof!
