How did that happen? Illegals? Trip to messyco? I wish they would say.

From the New York Times

The agency said about 75 students at St. Francis Preparatory School had complained Thursday of nausea, fever, dizziness and aches and pains. Several of the students were said to have recently traveled to Mexico, where as many as 61 people have died and possibly hundreds more have been infected in an outbreak of swine flu in recent weeks.

Sure. We’ll just kill the world economy to prevent the unavoidable (it will happen anyway) spread of a dangerous flu.

So we’ll crash the economy and starve, but hopefully without catching the flu.

I wish it were that easy.

Thanks for bringing this up. It is significant. Could be hysteria but worth investigating.

Department of Transporation can simply ground all flights.

To and from Mexico could happen soon. Its not going to stop it but may slow the spread.

"All this time I was looking out for this kind of development in China, but it popped up across the Pacific first."

I was thinking the same last night. China must be snickering. My next door neighbor is visiting in China presently.

This flu beats commercial mortgage or credit card in taking the economy further.

I hope this flu will kill Iranian staffs at nuclear complex and entire corps of IRG. I can dream, can't I?

At least 62 people have died from severe pneumonia caused by a flu-like illness in Mexico, according to WHO.

I had a friend who lived in NJ and worked in northern Manhattan. He complained of flu-like symptoms and took off from work for a week. He was under a doctor's care and was taking prescribed anti-biotics. He started having difficulty breathing and decided to go to the hospital. As his wife showered and as he was getting dressed, he laid back down on the bed.....and died. The cause was double pneumonia. This was a fit man in his early 50s whose job was quite physically demanding.
This happened in late Feb of this year.

I haven't heard a word about this flu being in China. I don't think so either.

The fly itself crashes the economy until it runs its course.

That’s just cold, hard facts.

First time after WWI that this version (avian/swine flu) came around I was the only kid to make it to school ~ only person too.

Had a very low death rate then. This time it looks like it has a minimum 6% death rate.

You lose 6% that’s focused primarily on working age adults you’ve probably destroyed your economy for many years and in some countries this is going to be enough to set off a societal collapse that’ll probably end up delivering a 50 to 75% death rate.

whether WHO should consider measures including travel advisories, trade restrictions and border closures.

The WHO can order trade restrictions and border closures?

But are the high levels of death due to non-treatment?

WHO does not have enforcement ability, but its recommendation would give governments rationale to take drastic measure (even at the risk of economic collapse.)
