The other problem is that when you click a link the next page can track where the traffic is coming from (referrers). They could use the information as ammunition to say the poll was tainted by freerepublic. If it appears to be random traffic there is no excuse.
If you copy and paste the link into a new tab or window there is no record of where you got the link.
