A year before Prince William County police say he raped an 8-year-old girl, court documents show an illegal immigrant from Honduras was released by Montgomery County police after being arrested for second-degree assault.
Marcos Banegas has been on the run since Feb. 16 when Prince William County police charged him with forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual battery of a Woodbridge girl.
But before moving to Prince William where police say he cut hair at a local salon, the 26-year-old was arrested by Montgomery County police. Banegas was accused of violently grabbing a stroller, causing the child inside to be shaken, police said in court documents. The incident allegedly occurred while Banegas was arguing with the childs mother near the intersection of Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg.
The charges were later dropped, and Banegas was released. Had his name been sent to federal immigration authorities, as it was in Prince William County, Banegas would have been detained for deportation hearings.
Earlier this year, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett altered the countys long-standing policy of not sending the names of those arrested to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Pushed by a series of high-profile killings allegedly committed by illegal immigrants, Leggett said in February the county would now send to ICE the names of people accused of violent offenses.
Leggett said the county would rely on the states legal list of violent offenses. But second-degree assault is not included on that list, and Banegas name would not have been turned over to ICE under the new policy, Leggetts spokesman Patrick Lacefield said.
People need to be held responsible for the crimes they commit, Lacefield said. Reporting every single crime would be putting county police in the position of enforcing federal immigration policy, he added, calling on the federal government to reform immigration laws.
Jon Feere, a policy analyst at the Center for Immigration Studies, said Banegas release is a perfect example of local governments failing to enforce immigration law.
Legal residents are going to have their lives threatened by people who are in the country illegally if those people arent deported after having committed even the most minor of offenses, Feere said. Montgomery County and Maryland as a whole are slowly realizing sanctuary policies are bad policies.
The illegal aliens who shot the teenagers in Newark were from Maryland and they had been arrested several times and released. This is only happening because the Democrat politicians are aggressively pushing it behind the scenes.
You are 100% right in what you said. The problem is things are a lot worse than most people realize because the cases that are reported in the media are only the tip of the iceberg. The Democrats are destroying Maryland and the US.
Ping!
We have our city council on the tube too, and it is amazing what passes for reason these days.
We had a traffic planner that thought it was a good idea to limit a heavy traffic street to one lane each direction (had been two e/w for over 40 years that I know of), so he could put in a bicycle lane. When I challenged him on it, he admitted he didn’t like people speeding, so he thought this would be a good way to fix that too. That was his main goal, to screw with drivers.
These folks are getting liberal talking points from somewhere, and just implementing them without thinking.
Amazing...
I am not making any excuses for the Democrats. Yes, they are pushing things behind the scenes. Yes they are pure evil. When I call my elected Republican representatives on it, they waffle. So I can’t defend them.
We hold border meetings with these officials in attendance, and they flat out lie, act like they didn’t know there was a problem, or come up with some puddin’-head reason why nothing can be done.
I don’t have a grind on for the Republican party officials for no reason at all. I’ve had to face the facts of what I have witnessed over time, and there’s just no other conclusion to come to, other than that we are being had by both parties.
You watch who speaks out against illegal immigration. It’s only a hand full of Republicans. I doubt there are five people in the House and the Senate combined that think immigration is a top three issue, unless it’s because they want to legalize the illegal aliens in our nation.
I am aware of Sheriff Arpaio (sp?). He’s a good man.
Yes the Democrats are definitely pushing things behind the scenes, but our people ARE NOT pushing back behind the scenes. We are being had.
“the Democrats are definitely pushing things behind the scenes, but our people ARE NOT pushing back behind the scenes. We are being had.”
I agree. We are being had. The scary part is most people have no clue as to how bad things are. Keep up the good work, keep putting pressure on public officials. I applaud you for that. I know you are frustrated but I am probably 100 times more frustrated. Keep fighting the good fight.
I believe it is going to take the people waking up and voting out of office these slime ball politicians who caused the problem.
Thanks Detective, you too.

Absolutely correct, with one small addition. It gets rid of that pesky bunch of loyal patriotic American voters who despise tax & spend big government while, at the same time, importing many thousands/millions of guaranteed Rat voters. Meanwhile our Stupid Party RINOs sit around sucking their thumbs, doing what they do best--nothing.
In other words, the good guys can no longer use votes to correct the problem. Looks like we'll have to resort to Plan B to reclaim the United States.
