In September 1995, John Deutch, the director of Central Intelligence, bowed to congressional pressure and fired two CIA officials because they had recruited Guatemalan military assets who had been involved in political assassinations.
Inside the agency’s amphitheater, known as the “Bubble,” Deutch then told CIA employees that despite the firings, they should continue to take risks in the service of their country. That brought snickers from many of the clandestine officers in the audience.
Deutch laid down the law that recruitment of assets or spies with so-called human rights violations would require high-level approval. Yet who else would know about terrorists and our enemies except those who were themselves involved in treachery?

We can’t connect the dots if nobody is collecting the dots.

You’re making two assumptions here, which I believe to be unfounded:
1. That the CIA is ‘collecting dots.’ Thanks to the Clinton-era prohibition on doing ‘business’ with thugs, pugs, mugs, etc... there isn’t a treasure trove of intel we’re collecting from choir boys.
2. That the CIA is properly connecting the dots. They missed the collapse of the USSR. They missed the Indian a-bomb - and then the Pak a-bomb. The missed the lead-up to 9/11. And on and on and on. They’re completely asleep at the switch on South America and Mexico, which are rapidly slipping away from us. They clearly have no clue what China is up to with commercial espionage, computer hacking, etc.
The CIA is a Cold War institution. They did some useful things during the Cold War. Since the end of the Cold War, they’re adrift - without a clearly defined purpose or a philosophy of what they should be doing.
We should end it and then build a new intel organization that deals with the world as it is now... not the world as the CIA’s Ivy-League graduates wish it were.
Now you folks do not really think because America has been handed over to a bunch of gutless homos, women & hood rats led by an uneducated, Kenyan born Muslim that has never had a job in his life would cause any problems do you?

It seems that in every generation or so some Democratic arsewhole guts the CIA . Then we have the Democrats in Congress that complain about inaccurate assessments from the CIA regarding things like, oh say, WMD’s in Iraq. That is the Democrat’s model: Gut and B*tch and (soon) Duck

Obama had best lay off before the CIA/NSA/DoD decide he isn’t worth protecting from terrorists. Obama forgets that in the Islamic world his conversion to phony Bible reading is punishable under Islamic law by death.
