Reagan is an ideal that is unrealistic to many conservatives, they don’t take the time to dig up the verifiable history of Reagan policy and diplomacy.

For some reason Reagan is often painted by conservatives as a “no new taxes”, staunch social conservative and a no government libertarian when in reality, he was a brilliantly pragmatic politican. He championed many of our causes, knew he couldn’t champion them all, but took what he could get and in the end got a lot becuase he was willing to maneuver.

The fact that Reagan raised taxes 7 times (every year but one) during his 8 years points to the fact that he was a realist and his realism and his reasoning skills made him a superb politician as properly defined. The definition being willing to compromise and acting pragmatically in the face of reality.

That shows that those folks care more about being reelected than they do about principles. How any decent, even moderate Republican could switch to a liberal democrat shows they have no scruples at all.

Specter Says No to Rendell’s Request to Change Parties

During a question and answer session at the Pennsylvania Press Club in Harrisburg on Monday, Senator Arlen Specter was asked if he might consider leaving the Republican party. Specter said it’s not the first time he’s heard that question recently:

“Governor Rendell made the suggestion to me. [He] said if I became a Democrat, he’d help me raise money. I told him if I became a Democrat, I wouldn’t have to raise any money [laughter].”

Specter says he was a ‘JFK Democrat’ before he became a Republican, but says he feels comfortable in the GOP. Specter also says he thinks the governor might have been joking about the party switch.

A Rendell spokesman says he doesn’t know if the governor was kidding but says if Specter wants to take him up on the offer, the door is open.

This was BEFORE he started losing to Toomey!

Rush Limbaugh is sayin’ that Arlen Spectacle
(as Mark Levin calls him) understands the
political reality.

Apparently he is being primary challenged and
is likely to NOT get the GOP nomination as a
result. It’s ALL about maintaining political
POWER and if that means switching to ‘RAT,
he is just fine with that.

Me too! Adios, RINO LOSER !!!

Specter won’t rule out run as an Independent

03/17/09

Sen. Arlen Specter said Tuesday that he will not run for reelection in 2010 as a Democrat, but might run as an Independent.

“I’m staying a Republican because I think I have a more important role to play there,” he said. “I think the United States very desperately needs a two-party system. ... And I’m afraid that we’re becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party.”

At the same time, Specter said he is open to the possibility of running as an Independent with the understanding that he would caucus with Republicans, just as Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) did with Democrats in 2006.

Though he left that option on the table, he suggested it would be a last resort.

******

Rush was talking about his just a little while ago. He also said the the PRESS was clapping when Specter announced he was leaving the Republican party. But, they are really not biased. /s

You are exactly right...Reagan would not try to push rino’s out...the 11th commandment...’thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican’...in Reagan’s own words.

Thanks for that additional info - so do you think he is going to list Independent because he feels Toomey would beat him as a republican?

He held to his principles but did in fact compromise...you are misreading Reagan.

What's being lost in all this rhetoric is the fact that this is one more example of how far these slugs in Washington have dismissed us. It's all about power, nothing more, and for this country to survive, all must be weeded out until we get politicians that represent the Constitution, not the masses or their power base. I don't think the voting booth will cut it anymore, they will just add more to ACORN to elect the good old boys who toe the line.

“Goodbye America. Nice knowing you.”

Not so fast...”if” the Gelding Old Party gets a testicle & spine implant before next year, they will be able to begin to retake the House and/or Senate...and “maybe” when & if they do retake either or both houses, they will do a better job of leadership than they did the last time they were in the Majority.
