Somebody has placed this incredible documentary on youtube and I commend it to anybody interested in the history of heroism, or the history of war in general. Overall, it's about an hour long and it explores in a fair amount of detail the actions that lead to the award of the Victoria Cross, the British Empire's and Commonwealth's highest decoration for bravery in the face of an enemy (thus given in the same place in our heirarchy of bravery awards that the Medal of Honour occupies in the United States), to Australian's since the dawn of the twentieth century. It includes re-enactments in some cases, looks at original documents, and has interviews with two of Australia's three living recipients - Edward Kenna VC (World War II), and Keith Payne VC (Vietnam War).
It is truly excellent viewing. The stories of men and actions worthy of the highest honour.
It takes the rather interesting approach of driving down the Remembrance Driveway that links Sydney and Canberra which has rest areas along its route named for VC recipients - a concept I've always liked - as people drive between the nation's largest city and its capital, when they stop off for a break, they walk through land dedicated to the memory of heroes and can read and learn about them.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
Thank you for posting these videos. Amazing men!
