SOUTH BEND A group opposed to President Barack Obamas upcoming commencement speech protested high above the Notre Dame campus Tuesday.
The group, The Center For Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR), had a small plane circle the campus starting about 5:30 p.m. with a 50-by-100 foot banner of a dead 10-week-old fetus behind it.
CBR also is responsible for displaying large abortion photos on the sides and backs of billboard trucks in the South Bend area, which began this week. The trucks and the plane will be a constant presence until the May 17 commencement speech, said Mark Harrington, spokesman for CBR.
At a later date, Harrington said, the plane will switch between the billboard seen Tuesday and one that will read: Abortion is Terror, which also will show a picture of a fetus.
The pro-life community at Notre Dame is, in part, responsible for the invitation of Barack Obama, Harrington said by phone Tuesday. If they were doing a good job of reaching the campus, its unlikely Obama would have been invited.
Harrington said CBR has tried to contact the campus in hopes of setting up a smaller display on campus, but Notre Dame has made it clear theyre not interested in inviting us.
In most cases, Harrington said, the plane will fly over for three hours at a time, and emphasized the importance of doing it while students are still in classes.
Weather permitting, it will go up several more times, he said.
CBR also will display large hand-held signs, which graphically emphasize similar messages along all routes leading to the school, Harrington added.
Harrington said these kind of photos will help end abortion, even if pro-life activists must show them over the objection of pro-life pacifists. Harrington said the demonstration will be peaceful.
Notre Dame update ping for your lists
A picture is worth one thousand words plus......
Anyone that supports the culture of death will die themselves........they will lose their way............the path will become hidden from them.....there is no nourishment from candy........
Hats off to the CBR group for their courage and their dedication.
I have long faulted some anti-abortion groups for being too polite and pacifist.
This is a War on the Unborn that has been going on for forty years now. It’s time to try a different and more forceful strategy (while still remaining within the law.)
May God bless them. My thanks to them for carrying the fight forward.
God bless them!
Homeland Security isn’t going to be happy....
Imagine if Mary (aka Notre Dame) had chosen abortion.
Extraordinarily stupid.
The more positive way to persuade people to be pro-life is to show pictures of beautiful babies, especially by giving away free sonograms in shopping malls and on college campuses.
In contrast, those who show pictures of cut-up babies are either agit-prop 5th columnists, idiots, or otherwise aiding pro-abortion forces.
We ARE doing that, also.
Baby-killing leftist rat scum deserve to have this shoved in their faces.
Highly disagree. One of the reason for the anti-Vietnam movement was the graphic photos/movie of the war. Pictures work. And pro-choice people should know EXACTLY what they are supporting.
After the surrender of Germany in WWII Ike made the German people file by and look at the realities of the concentration camps that they had abetted or ignored. Like the abortuaries in America today, the atrocities of the camps had been carried out behind barbed wire, fences, and walls, out of the public eye for the most part. He wanted to strip away every excuse that they had for what had been done in their name, in their country. American leaders also made sure that extensive photographs of the mass carnage were distributed throughout the world, with the goal that this kind of genocide could never be perpetrated again.
Well, the atrocities committed in this country in the name of “choice” are just as morally reprehensible and in their numerical scope are now eclipsing the acts of the Nazis.
Perhaps it won’t stop until people see the reality of abortion with their own eyes.
I didn't see a /sarc tag at the end of the post. So I will assume that you weren't being sarcastic.
My daughter is in 10th grade at a public school in the People's Socialist Democratic Republic of Maryland. She is also a pro-life activist. (She is a co-chair of our parish's pro-life committee)
When she started going to that school, she was, as could be imagined, the only person who had the guts to speak up as a pro-lifer.
She's managed to convert no fewer than 30 students from claiming to be pro-choice to pro-life in this school year. How? She explains to her fellow students exactly what an abortion is and how it is done. And she keeps pictures in her backpack and on her phone.
I agree with you that sonograms and support are important. They are a critical way to stop women who are on the edge from having an abortion. But making sure that the public at large understands EXACTLY what abortion consists of is the way to get people, in general, worked up.
The reason why the pro-aborts want to suppress the use of pictures of dismembered babies is because that tactic is so effective.
