When he announced the other day that he was switching to the Democratic Party, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter offered to return campaign donations from any contributors who might take offense.
Turns out that includes a lot of his Senate Republican colleagues who lent money to the cause.
Georgia Republican Johnny Isakson was first in line -- asking Specter to return his $5,000 leadership political action committee contribution. Other Republicans requesting refunds on behalf of their PACs: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky ($10,000), Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander ($5,000), Texas Sen. John Cornyn ($5,000) and Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker ($5,000).
"They gave that money to elect a Republican. They did not give that money to strengthen [Democratic Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid's majority," National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Brian Walsh told the Washington Times. "I expect a lot of people will be looking to have their money returned."
No question Republicans are peeved. One Republican official in Hamilton County, Ohio, Alex Triantafilou, was criticized for crossing the line into tastelessness when he posted an image of Specter, then bald from his chemotherapy treatments for a brain tumor, next to one of the hairless Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies. He's since replaced it with a photo of a frowning child.
Now, Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Robert A. Gleason Jr. is demanding that Specter return all campaign contributions, no questions asked. On CNN, Gleason said Specter should "do the right thing and proactively return any and all campaign contributions he has received in recent months to run as a Republican in the upcoming election."
Oh, and Gleason thinks Specter should apologize to the state's Republicans for misleading them.

Gleason should shut up and count his blessings..
The RINO is gone... he should go harang the other(remaining) RINOs..
You know.... make his-self useful..
Arlen is coming to my place of work to talk about the stimulus bill. If I can attend I will. I plan on writing on my back window that Specter is in town, hide your wallet and parking it where most people coming into the garage can see it.
Wooooo...don't you KNOW??? Senators think they are Gods and should never be held same standards of that of the "little people!" Pleeeeeeeaze!
Anyone who donated to Arlen knew they were not giving money to a Republican.
The voters of Pennsylvania who voted for him should bring a class action suit.
The Democrats have pledged their support (read money) for Specter’s re-election.
Sweden has a law against changing parties until their term is up. We should have that same law.
Johnny Isakson
Mitch McConnell
Lamar Alexander
John Cornyn
Bob Corker
Over the last 30 years, there have been more D to turn R than R to turn D.
What does Scottish law say about two-faced, backstabbing senators?
Yep that’s what we need! Let’s give the Dem’s a super majority by kicking out more Republicans! /s
The answer to a slit wrist is not to cut your throat!
That they are present.
It’s scary to think how many tens of millions of Americans have no representation in Washington. When we elect a Republican, we expect to be represented by a Republican, dammit. When that Senator or Congressman begins to vote in a way that will benefit him or her financially or politically, they no longer represent the citizens who sent them to Washington and their constituents are no longer represented. “No taxation without represenation.” I’d love to see a nation-wide movement refusing to pay taxes that were passed by people who no longer represent our best interests.
We will be doing our best to have Isakson “retire” here in Georgia. There is nothing conservative about the jerk.
I thought the dumb democrats did not care for war monger politicians like Specter. The only thing the sleazy democrats really care about is baby killing. Abortion is their religion. Specter will fit in them just fine because he supports Partial Birth Abortion.
Well you can just sit right there on you butt while they suck the blood right out of you. I guess you gave to Specter’s re-election campaign also?
That's glass-half-empty. See, Obummer is full throttle right now and unlike NASCAR, doesn't get a change of tires before 2010. He's already been 'loose' in a few of the corners- the most recent being NY FLYGATE. As such, he hasn't stepped on all the toes that will get stepped on between now and then.
The Republicans need a new icon to set the pace for the other 'drivers' to follow before '10. She'll have to (oops- tipped my hand) carry the 'real' banner of conservatism to those who might be a little tepid about it now. Every race in 2010 needs to have a conservative as an opponent who 'clings bitterly' to the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, and individual liberty (just to name a few)-RINOs need not apply.
This new icon will have her work (dang!, did it again) cut out for her and will no doubt be criticized for messing in the affairs of the lower 48, but if she pulls it off (and I have no doubt she can) we'll owe a debt of gratitude to the people of Alaska for putting what really matters for America ahead of whatever the current crop of greedy shysters have planned for themselves.
If we hadn’t held our noses and voted for Corker, you would likely have President Harold Ford now - same agenda, more brains on when to keep his mouth shut about those plans.
I called Isakson’s office during the Amnesty debate. I told the aide I couldn’t get through on the English line, but I got right in on the Spanish line. She said, ‘English isn’t our official language, you know.’ I nearly went through the phone.
True enough, however it appears most of them turned RINO, not Republican.
