Governor Signs House Bill
Certificates for Stillborn Babies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 09-104

Governor Signs House Bill

May 1, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today signed legislation authorizing birth certificates for stillbirths. House Bill 2, sponsored by Representative Carl Gatto, allows the Bureau of Vital Statistics to issue certificates for stillborn babies at the request of the parents. HB 2 passed the House 29-1, Senate 18-1.

"This is beautiful because this can surely help a grieving family after losing a child,” Governor Palin said. “I'm thankful that Alaska's legislature recognizes how important a step like this is as Alaska embraces a culture of life and respects precious babies, including babies stillborn, but still loved by their families. Alaskans respect this sanctity of life and I appreciate Representative Gatto's efforts."

“HB 2 gives recognition that the mom of a stillborn child indeed had a birth and now will be able to request and receive a birth certificate stating that ‘yes, you delivered a precious child,’” Representative Gatto said. “Unbelievably, there are mothers who have been waiting 20 years to receive recognition that their child was born. Those moms who delivered a stillborn child left the hospital with nothing more than a death certificate and no acknowledgment that a birth actually took place. At the time of delivery, their child was no less loved.”

Approximately 50 stillbirths occur each year in Alaska.

What an amazing human being. God bless her..yet the left want to destroy her. She is everything that is good about America, the left is what is evil about America.

Wow. That is a really moving article. Of course it is only right to issue a birth cerificate in those cases. And yes, I can hear the gasps of horror from the lefty pro-death libs. My cousin’s wife gave birth to stillborn twin daughters years ago, and they named them and held a funeral and burial for them.

Indeed....one naturally wonders who the lone dissenting vote was.

If Alaska wasn’t so far north, I’d move there in a heartbeat. It could, quite possibly, be it’s own nation.

That is a great picture of them. When you look at the eyes and the smiles, you know instantly they are genuine. What a great family.

I agree with you about Sarah. The left hates her because she is good. Evil always hates goodness. Even in this coarsely mannered world we have now, it surprised me how vicious they were to Sarah as soon as she stepped into the national spotlight. I instantly saw her goodness, her American spirit, countless good things about her. I have great hopes for her continuing politcal career.

Did you happen to see Sarah on “American Choppers” last night? I thought the editors of the video footage did a poor job. My suspicion is the editor was a lefty. They spliced her statements together in a bad way. Kind of how Perky Katie did, or Charlie Gibson did.

Yeah I saw her on American Chopper last night, it was great, and yea the video editing wasn’t great, but it was no big deal. She still came out looking great and oh the libs were going nuts about that dead bear in the background..Funny how the libs have no problem killing innocent babies, but they have an issue with a bear

Possibly because you are not alone in your high esteem of Alaska, which is shared by myself at least, there is only one listing for a residential home in Alaska on eBay at the moment, but it looks very nice.

I think I am a bit sensitive how our Sarah is treated by others. They seemed to edit in too many times, her saying it was Alaska’s 50th anniversary. I figured the libs were cringing while she reclined into that bear’s head on the couch! LOL. I like how she can do it all. Kill it and Grill it as Ted Nugent says. On election day, they showed footage of Sarah and Todd after they voted, and she was wearing the same Carhartt jacket I have. There were those who used the phrase “I am Sarah Palin” last fall to show their support and I am one of them. She is like us. That’s why the left hates her. They are bad bad bad liberals. I got behind a few libtard cars this week, with their ObamaBiden stickers all over them. I just shake my head at their ridiculous clown cars and laugh at them, as I follow in my V8 Silverado (pre-Obama Motors!).

Praise G_d for the love, respect for, and nuturing of, a culture of life, and the selflessness amply demonstrated by Representative Gatto, and Governor Palin.

Plaudits also to each of those of the Alaska House and Senate who voted “Yes”.

I wish Mrs. Palin could be the Gov. of Washington...or Oregon...or California.

We’d all be the better for it.

Sarah in 2012!!
