The trouble is you equate British Conservatism with American Conservatism. There is nothing about being a British conservative that makes one have any reverence for politicians, never mind foreign ones, which is why the Telegraph is perfectly at home mocking an American conservative politician for shooting his friend in the face.
‘Tory Anarchism’ may well sound oxymoronic, but it describes a brand of British Conservatism which is conservative and supports British institutions, whilst at the same time being rather cynical, openly critical and mocking of the people who are part of those institutions, even if they are conservatives. If you asked Ian Hislop, he would probably if he was being honest say he supported the monarchy and voted Conservative, but that wouldn’t stop him taking the piss out of them....
