Minnick sees no chance for gun control measures

LEWISTON, Idaho - Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick says gun owners don't need to worry about their gun rights being eroded in the current U.S. Congress.

"There is no possibility there is going to be any gun control in this Congress," Minnick told the Lewiston Tribune.

Minnick said he's one of 52 conservative "blue dog" Democrats in the House who oppose further gun control.

"Nothing can pass in the House without some blue dog support," he said. "The support (for Second Amendment rights) goes far beyond the blue dogs. It's not just fiscally conservative Democrats. I would warrant it's a solid majority of the caucus."

Shooting enthusiasts say fears that the Obama administration might push gun control legislation has boosted gun sales and is driving gun owners to stockpile ammunition.

But Minnick said there are more pressing issues facing Congress than gun control.

"I think it would divert the Congress away from real problems," he said. "We have so many of them and of such severity, I think it would be shortchanging the nation to spend a week or two on a topic that divisive. It's like fiddling when Rome is burning. We have real problems _ energy, health care, immigration. We still have problems of national security, a war-and-a-half we are fighting. We don't have the luxury to spend time on issues like this. I think it's just a non-issue."

Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, said not only is support for gun rights strong in both parties, but he sees a good chance of laws expanding gun rights.

He and Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., are working on a bill to allow people to carry loaded concealed weapons in national parks.......

Thanks, Walt. I'll just remain a paranoid ammo-hoarder, all the same.

Nancy boys like this “conservative Democrat,” who keeps Pelosi in power, won’t have to vote to register guns and repeal the Second Amendment. BO is planning to sign the UN treaty that will accomplish that same goal.
Every one of these charlatans should be defeated the next time they run because they are not limited government conservatives and have helped the Left turn the nation over to the Socialists.

I think the anti’s will try to get some things done through back door legislation. It will probably be tied to some big bill. You notice how many read the stimulus package.

So he admits that Dhims want to take away our freedoms, he just dismisses the point because they are currently too weak in his opinion to pull it off.

Great. I feel so much better about Democrats now.

That's what I thought too. Bastards swear by all that's holy that they aren't going to do something and you better start watching a bit harder.

Them leaving our guns alone is just peachy, but I think that we ought to kinda keep an eye on 'em anyway.

Look for the anti’s to pull a head fake on this issue. They’re currently working at the state level to pass their agenda. Stay vigilant as to what is going on at the state level.

I think he’s probably right.

I don’t expect the Congress to move on any “gun control” at least until the dems have expanded majorities to provide political cover for those from conservative districts, allowing them to appose any such legislation while the liberals move it through. In the meantime, it’s time to GO SHOPPING, and as OFTEN as you can!!!!

PS: If anyone in SW VA is looking for an AR15, I found a little store over the weekend out in the middle of nowhere that had 8 of them, brand new and of various models and configurations. The guys running the place seemed like good folks too.

Send me a private message for details.

We just got a “VOTERS VOICE VOTE” from our (Democrat) House Rep.....here’s his 3 questions for this mailing:

1. EARMARKS: Should Congress pass legislation placing strict regulations on earmarks?
2. NATIONALIZED HEALTHCARE: Should funding be set aside for a program that has not yet been approved by Congress?
3. GUN CONTROL: Should Congress pass the Blair Holt Act (HR 45) enacting a strict gun control law?
