Maybe it’s not so widespread in Kansas, and maybe some people on this board aren’t plugged into the teen-to-20’s American female culture, but it most certainly is a trend—whether CNN quotes any statistical studies on it or not.
I can’t claim credit for that one, it’s an old maxim from the industry (if one can call Information Technology an “industry”) that I’m in.
I will concur that it is, shall we say, apt.

This particular story makes it’s rounds every two years or so.
No data, just a recruitment drive as far as I can see. And one that doesn’t seem to be particularly effective.
I knew a singer and guitar player in a girl rock band. The singer’s boyfriend was the major Coke dealer down the beach. Well Coke does things and eventually the singer and guitar player are Lesbian Chic. They even started playing at more Gay events than the rock circuit. Needless to say, the Cocaine supply was cut off and they went clean. Well apparently when the Coke wore off they became Born Again, back to men and went their separate ways and had families.
You would be correct on the coke thing. I live in a pretty affluent area and have seen what it does. Never bothered with it myself, but I've noticed it particularly does strange things to women especially. A girl I was seeing actually left me for the resident coke supplier. She got off it and eventually admitted what a mistake it was to me that she chose to be with him. A little too late, but a lessen learned I suppose.

The good thing is it’s yet more proof that homosexuality is simply a chosen behavior.
