Baldacci Signs Same-Sex Marriage Into Law
Portland Press Herald ^ | 5/6/09 | Matt Wickenheiser

Posted on 05/06/2009 10:04:05 AM PDT by steve-b

Democratic Gov. John Baldacci today signed into law a bill allowing gay marriage, making Maine the fifth state to allow same-sex marriage.

The governor's signature came barely an hour after the measure won final approval in the state Legislature, with a final 31-8 vote in favor in the Maine Senate.

Baldacci said in a statement that while he has opposed gay marriage in the past, "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and ofequal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage.

"This new law does not force any religion to recognize a marriage that falls outside of its beliefs," the governor said. "It does not require the church to perform any ceremony with which it disagrees. Instead, it reaffirms the separation of church and state.

"It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine’s civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of government," Baldacci said....

So when will known homosexual politicians like Barney Frank be getting married?

There are groups here in Maine that are vehemently opposed to “gay” marriage.

These groups are actively working on a mechanism called “The People’s Veto;” in other words, the whole issue of “gay” marriage will most likely wind up on the ballot in the near future and when that happens, there’s a good chance this so-called “gay” marriage law will be overturned by the people of Maine.

Re the BEAN’s boycott; I don’t think that anything like that is going on - not that I know of anyway - but it was recently on the news up here that they are in financial trouble and just laid off a LOT of employees.

It probably would not take much of a boycott from all of us “Religious zealot radical right wing HATERS” in the Peeplez Republik of Amarika to finish them off.

Wouldn’t break my heart any, frankly.

Most of you don’t know the half of the flaming over the top corruption in and repression from the organized criminal syndicate that passes for our “government” up here in ME.... and you probably don’t want to..

Povera Europa America....i culattoni sono in maggioranza.

With a hat tip to Italian politician Mirko Tremaglie, who famously sent out a terse but searingly frank statement on the torpedoing of the nomination of Rocco Buttiglione by homosexualists in the European Union.

"Poor Europe....the butt-boys are in the majority."

You mean New Brunswick.

I’m with you. Gubberment involvement with marriage has not been good for the institution. It has conditioned folks to treat it like any other contract from the gubberment that may be broken and resumed at will. And it has conditioned folks to think “gay marriage” is possible because the gubberment says it is.

The “Gay” lobby is so far up his tailpipe that his crankshaft keeps whacking them on the head.

I knew that this was a done deal and resistance was futile as soon as the bill was introduced - as I fully expected it to be for some time now.

Now we still have the “Citizen’s Veto” referendum process up here, as much as the Commiocrats are constantly trying to take it away. With 55,000 signatures on a Citizens initiative petition it can be brought to a referendum for the PEOPLE to vote on it - a frequent obstacle and embarrassment to the ruling elite.

Bear in mind what happened to those who supported “Proposition 8” in Californica - the Sodomites got ahold of copies of the petitions and donor listings - complete with addresses and phone numbers etc., and proceeded to terrorize and intimidate those who dared to resist Sodomite domination.

Gov. Sarah Palin’s Church got torched (with people in it), and it was strongly suspected that the Sodomite lobby had a lot to do with it.
Apparently some people lost their jobs over their anti-gay sentiments. I don’t think anyone actually got murdered, but no doubt a lot of “Homophobic” Californians were in fear for their lives for a while there - and might still be for all I know.

This militant “gay” terror tactic would not be lost on any attempt to collect petition signatures here - and a lot of Mainers, I suspect, would be rather hesitant to put themselves and their families in the bomb sights of the Sodomite Militia by signing such a petition.

If you cross these people or get in the way of their agenda, you are likely to find out what “HATE” is really all about - they will want to HURT you, and just might DO something about it!

Or Cuba.

I want to hear what the RINO Sisters think of their state going gay. Does anyone have any quotes by them?

Re:

“I will be voting this law down this fall.”

And you, Sir, are... God?

Because no one of lesser rank than the Supreme Deity has the requisite power to reform this political and economic cesspool that the otherwise beautiful State of Maine has become over the past 30 years or so - ever since the big city Ivy League Commiocrats moved in and took over.

It’s such a pity; this used to be a really great place to live, too. I guess it still is if you’re a member of the ruling elite.

But don’t let my cynicism deter you - by all means feel free to give it a good old college try.

As far as reversing or even thwarting the onslaught of perversion and corruption overspreading out State and Nation like a monstrous backed up toilet...

... - By golly, you’re a daisy if ya do!

Those who spearhead the Citizen’s Veto effort will be brave Americans, and we should give them all the support we can. The gay nazi’s will try to intimidate, no doubt, so hold strong and know that you have support.

Re:

Nice try - but I don’t think that they want us, really.

Have you ever been to Nova Scotia?

It’s a beautiful place; ‘twould be a shame to screw it up and pollute it by annexing us.

I’m sure they know better.

Re:

“...That will come in due time, as the leftist ratchet tightens down inexorably ...”

Have yet to read the full text of the bill to see if it has explicit protection for Churches against malicious litigation for choices of conscience as apparently they do in NH, but I also expect the well funded and organized Sodomite Legal Guild to go right to work on any fellowship that dares to turn down a “request” to conduct a “gay marriage” ceremony or make it’s facilities available for a “wedding” celebration.

I might be a little paranoid here, but I have an uneasy feeling that a sinister hidden agenda behind this whole “Gay marriage” movement is the destruction of the evangelical Christian Church - or the remnants thereof.

Like any “progressive” system or tyranny; that which they cannot control (and they do control a LOT of Churches these days) they compulsively MUST destroy.

If any Bible Believing Christians are reluctant to allow “gays” to infiltrate and take over their Church, they might want to preemptively start looking for some catacombs to fellowship in.

You’re gonna need ‘em.

Re:

“I want to hear what the RINO Sisters think of their state going gay...”

Shucks, they might get so giddy about it that they’ll marry each other!

Oh!; Wait!...;

The Queen of Prenatal Infanticide is already hitched to former ME RINO Governor (and complete embarrassment) “Jock” McKernan!

Well; not to worry, Sports fans; it’s only a matter of time before we’ll have polygamy, pedophilia and bestiality all legalized here, along with God only knows what other kind of abomination the progressive movement can come up with.

Oly can keep Jock in the closet for the occasional photo op and still be married to Susan.

Won’t that be just LOVE-E-LY??

...I really do love living here in Maine...

...Please remind me of that every now and then, won’t you?

Thanks. I know not everyone believes in God so the state had to come up with something that supported God’s institution and the good it does for society, but God instituted marriage and I always laugh when gays who mock God then want to use HIS institution.

“I am dumbfounded. Thirty-years and not a single state has the balls to ban abortion. Less than 5 years, five states celebrate brown stinky holes as acceptable for marriage.”

Thank you NEA and liberal media. It’ll only get worse unless we can unbrainwash the younger generation. When that generation is polled the data shows that a high number them have swallowed the gay line.

It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine’s civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of government, is just like all the other looney states where they ignore 90% of the people's will to appease 10% "
