Maine, fifth state to allow gay marriage

Maine's Gov. John Baldacci signed a bill into law allowing same-sex marriage in his state. Maine becomes the fifth state to do so. The other four: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts and Vermont.

"In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions," Baldacci said in a statement. "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage."

There is serious legislative activity to approve gay marriage in DC (where last night the city council voted to recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere), New Jersey, New Hampshire and New York.

Also, in California, there’s a state Supreme Court challenge to Prop. 8.

The whole Northeast have gone out of their minds. Hopefully sensible people can organize and get this repealed. The foundational values of our country are being destroyed by these liberal activists and at some point, there is going to be a backlash. I know a lot of people are outraged that this sham was pushed through as well as the 'Pedophile Protection Act' now being pushed through Congress. If you get a chance, please call your Representatives now.

Hmmm is it just me or does the MSM not seem quite so celebratory when a state passes a BAN on gay marriage?

There’s already a few threads on this, the main one listed as the main thread on breaking news. Look before you leap to a new thread, IMHO.

Are you giving me your opinion on how to use this forum?

Just hit your name at random. A comment mainly to the one who put this thread up. The moderator usually catches threads which dupolicate earlier major breaking news threads. I’ll look myself before I leap to post to the correct person.

No problem. I thought I was being advised to research for dupes before I post on someone else’s thread. That would be quite a request.

What in the world has happened to New England? I remember when New England produced real men. When in the hell did it become so damned gay?

This will be a nice boost for conservative organizing. For the first time?, the catholic leadership is getting involved with conservative protestants, to repeal this bill.

This bill will not survive a referendum vote this nov.
