Everyone Is Watching Bunning
WFPL News ^ | 5-6-09 | Gabe Bullard

When it comes to Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning, everyone’s a critic. With the formation of Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson’s exploratory committee, national media has started a “Bunning Campaign Death Watch” of sorts: outlets everywhere have cranked up the speculation on when Bunning will drop out of the race, even though the Senator says he has no plans to retire. Now, the snarky political blog Wonkette has weighed in. The editors are no fan of Ron Paul, and the story focuses on the possible candidacy of the Texas Congressman and former Republican Presidential Candidate’s son, Bowling Green eye doctor Rand Paul.

“…Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning will make a fool of himself daily in the process of losing his Senate seat. And now the hilarity might start even sooner, because Ron Paul’s child, Rand (”The Son”), might primary Bunning. Rand Paul has the exact same views as his father, so it should take about two minutes of money supply babble before Bunning gets uncomfy…”

You can read it all (warning, explicit language) here.

Bunning has a problem controlling both his mouth and temper, which explains why he cussed out the press a couple of months back at a conference. This is the chief reason I will vote for him again.

Jim Bunning...the only person in the history of the world to pitch a perfect game in the major leagues (June 21, 1964, for the Phillies against the Mets) and to be elected to the U.S. Senate. He's the only member of the baseball Hall of Fame who is in the Senate.

Unfortunately both of his elections have been very close...it would be better to have a different Republican than to let the Democrats snatch the seat. I don't know how good a chance Bunning would have of being re-elected.

I can see why this would appeal to you. Most of the “press” are major tools.

His office, unlike the other Kentucky Senator, is always receptive and responsive when I have contacted them regarding issues. Jim Bunning was absolutely 100% correct regarding the bailout/TARP/Bailout2/etc. He’s been dogging Greenspan for years.

...And he was the first to speak out against the Bailouts!

...But, if he decides not to run, will you consider Rand?

The GOP have worked to dismantle our Republic just as diligently as the Democrats. Be it Bunning, Greyson, or Paul in the general election for the GOP makes no difference. They may have good intentions initially, but if the GOP gets in their corner they are expected to follow party platform and ideals or risk losing party support in future elections - as we see with Bunning now.

Bunning didn’t play ball a few times during the Bush admin when the GOP wanted him to, he favored his constitutents over the party and it will cost him his career. If you look at Bunning’s record during the Obama admin, he has been more conservative and consistently defending his constitutents moreso than Mr. Minority Leader.

The gaggle of goons lining up for the Democrat primary are the biggest jokes you could imagine. Our own Lt. Gov who called those of us who voted against Obama “ignorant racists” thinks he stands a chance. Then you have the incompetent Jack “elevator doesn’t go to the top floor” Conway, etc. Most of these folks currently hold a public office so who exactly will be fullfilling their duties while they jot around the state (at taxpayer expense) campaigning?

Regardless of which Republican or Democrat make it to the general election ballot, there will be at least one Kentuckian listed along with the career criminals, er politicians.

It’s well beyond the time for the people to take back control of our country from career “politicians”.

I would, but Bunning did the people of this great commonwealth proud when he came out swinging against the TARP / Bank Nationalization scheme.

Especially those Obama bootlicking bastards in Louisville (or Lousy-ville as I've come to know it).

I like Jim Bunning and he is one of the more conservative members of the republican caucas but he is in his 80’s. I think there needs to be a cut off point as for as age goes for serving in the Senate or the House.

To me 72 years of age needs to be the cut off.
