...
The fire lay dormant most of the day. But strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph arrived in the afternoon and stoked the fire.
The sheriff's office says an evacuation order covering 1,200 homes has been expanded to 2,000 homes.

Better advice would be to simply flee California.

It’s only early May too.. between special elections, wildfires and idiots for political leaders, I hear ya.
Prayer for the people and their homes, I know what it's like to lose one to fire.
That fire sure took off in the last hour or so
Lived in the San Diego area for about 3 years, and have been back to that area many times, it’s all a fire hazard. The underbrush in that area goes up like matches. Until they finally want to address that situation this will be an on going problem.
winds are up for now ,, humidity is down..
fingers crossed ping

http://www.keyt.com/news/local/44397807.html
5:30 p.m. UPDATE: The Jesusita Fire has over run it’s perimeter and is now burning into the Mission Canyon and San Roque Canyon areas of Santa Barbara. At this time there is no containment, and multiple structures have been lost.
Hiya Normie.. I’ve been on Twitter for 2 days w/all this. Have family in SB, so far fine;
I. Cannot. Believe. Schwarzenegger.
KFI has it right, he’s threatening the state: if I don’t get the tax props passed the first thing to go will be firefighters. As if there is no other wasteful chaff on the state payrolls that couldn’t go first.
He is unconscionably awful. Lord help us.
Future evacuation possibility warning is indeed down to the city now. Pretty unreal.
THE EVACUATION WARNING AREA HAS EXPANDED AND NOW INCLUDES: LA CUMBRE ROAD (WESTERN BOUNDARY) TO STATE STREET, STATE STREET TO DE LA VINA, DE LA VINA TO ANAPAMU, ANAPAMU TO ANACAPA, ANACAPA SOUTH TO DE LA GUERRA, DE LA GUERRA TO MILPAS, MILPAS TO MONTECITO STREET, MONTECITO STREET TO ALAMEDA PADRE SERRA

Gov. declares emergency for California wildfire
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for a wildfire that has surged into the city of Santa Barbara.
He issued the proclamation Wednesday evening after high winds stoked the slumbering fire and homes began burning. Residents were told to leave about 2,000 homes because of the fire that started in the foothills about the coastal enclave Tuesday afternoon.
TV news helicopters showed homes ablaze but thick smoke obscured how many. County fire Capt. David Sadecki said the fire was burning quickly and winds were gusting up to 50 mph.
Alex Abatie, the Independent's design director, reporting from the corner of Foothill Road and Alamar Avenue at 6 p.m., said that he can see a house on fire as flames come over the hill; he estimates that they are less than 100 yards from Foothill Road.
Any power outages yet?
