Up and down Castlegate Avenue and other streets in East Compton, some of the garages show signs of the city's recent crackdown on blight....To JustaRamirez and some of her neighbors, on the other hand, what has happened to their garages is an injustice with racial undertones that is taking money out of people's pockets at the worst possible time. Compton is cracking down on garages that have illegally been converted into living spaces. That includes, according to city manager Charles Evans, as many as a third of all the residents' garages, some of which house entire families who can't afford to rent a house or apartment. Others think the number could be even higher. Compton, a city of about 93,000 south of Watts, is hardly unique. Across Los Angeles County, officials estimate that hundreds of thousands of people sleep each night in quarters originally built for automobiles. In a region with a deep shortage of affordable housing, officials have long struggled with what to do about illegal garage units. Strictly enforcing all building codes could result in tens if not hundreds of thousands of people pushed onto the street, according to housing experts. But it is not good public policy to have children and families living in unsafe units -- especially ones that do not have proper fire exits. Los Angeles officials are considering a different approach. City Council President Eric Garcetti said he planned to propose that one neighborhood participate in a voluntary pilot project to help residents bring illegal units up to code and get them properly permitted. "To me, it's not a question about cracking down and ripping out these units," he said. "It's more in a . . . difficult economic moment, how can we make these legal?"

“Mex-i-fornia, here we come!”
“First, we evacuate the city. Then, we burn it down. Then, we collect all the ashes, and you know what we do? We burn the ashes. Three times. Then we rebuild.”

You surrender your country to a bunch of Third World peasants and what do you get? Third World standards and living conditions. I have heard arguments at public meetings in which the newly arrived peasants actually said that people are racist because they object to 10 unrelated people living in a two-bedroom apartment. At a meeting in San Francisco, a recently arrived Chinese woman stated that there would be room for more Chinese to come to this country if Americans weren’t so selfish in insisting on living in such big houses! That one took the cake.
What about the property owners who do not house the Mexican Army? Don't they deserve to have their property values protected by enforcement of the zoning codes?
Just another example of how illegals have more rights than American citizens.
The whole premise of the City being concerned about people living in garages is BS. The city is eager to include the converted garage square feet into the total dwelling area to increase tax assessments.
The bigger picture?
Can I be honest here?
A government that will not secure and protect it's legitimate borders and sovereignty, will itself, eventually become illegitimate.
I saw the title and thought Bubb Rubb was up to his old shenanigans.
Many illegals will work for low wages, and have depressed the wage scale in many jobs. Citizens cannot compete with the illegals because they cannot live on the low wages. What many fail to see is that illegals cannot live on those wages either. That is why you see issues like living conditions, and so many rely on public assistance in many forms. Citizens are paying the difference for illegals to live here, and we have lost jobs to them. When are we going to wake up to the reality of the cost of having illegals in our country??
The third world is winning. The first world doesn’t have the stomach for the fight.
The bill.
Since when does what citizens demand count? We are no longer represented here, and this has been going on for decades. Lets get real and not BS each other.
Hell bells, after 8 years of Bush, he made American citizenship all but pointless.
Must be a joy to be a Section 8 landlord in Compton.
THIS is the major problem. Cities could care less how people live, it's improved property that has not been added to the tax roles that's the issue.
True, citizenship has rules, non citizenship has special treatment. Free education free medical, no need for drivers license, no need for insurance. Just call yourself Juan.
E-X-T-R-A-C-T these people.
But the bankers are doing really well and that’s the main thing!!! Sac Off!!!
What?
Are you suggesting the home office, the Feds, could care less about the American standard of living?
I would hope you're not suggesting this.
