Why attacking Iran may be morally and militarily necessary
The American Thinker ^ | May 07, 2009 | James Lewis

The decision to go to war is always a profound moral question, for any sane and civilized country. It is also a military and political question, and in the case of Iran, situated as it is at the head of the Persian-Arab Gulf, a major economic question. All the ducks have to be in a row for the decision to be made.

SecDef Gates argued in public testimony last week that knocking out Iran's nuclear installations would make little sense, because it would only slow down the mullahs' rush to nukes, and not bring them to a screeching halt. But in a crisis like this one, no public statement can be believed; disinformation is at least as common as truth-telling. Some people have argued that Gates took the military option off the table, thereby Jimmy-Carterizing Obama good and proper. In this view, Obama is committing public self-castration for the cause of peace.

I don't believe it, because Gates is a pretty good player of the info/disinfo game. Obama must know that he, too, could become Carterized if the ayatollahs make the US look helpless long enough. Gates' argument also contradicts a careful recently published study on Iran's nuclear vulnerabilities.

Well, if “immoral” is the opposite of “moral”, then Iran has nothing to worry about from 0.

We can not afford another war...Iran was always a bigger threat then Iraq, but our hands are pretty much tied right now.

The Iranians were just boasting the other day about how Obama’s actions had “acknowledged” US defeat and Iran’s new dominance in the ME. Didn’t take long for Mr. President Stupid to completely undo everything the US had won over years. Actually, make that Mr. President Treason. I don’t think it’s accidental.

“Obama must know that he, too, could become Carterized if the ayatollahs make the US look helpless long enough. Gates’ argument also contradicts a careful recently published study on Iran’s nuclear vulnerabilities.”

The anti-war left and it’s patrons are too powerful to let Obama be labeled “Jimmy Carter 2) The MSM would never let it get out.

Israel knows what the tipping point is. And apparently it is very soon.

The ONLY ropes that bind us are hussein and his evilcrats. Otherwise we could do what we need to do... but the fact that a muslim/marxist is supremem leader of what was once the USA... negates any action against his brother evidoers.

After spending billions on Afghanistan and Iraq and useless bailouts-trillions of dollars in debt...where will the money come from? We don’t even get much stimulus from building weapons like we used to since a fair amount of parts and such come from overseas...outsourced. Maybe if we kept our manufacturing in America, we would have the resources to do this.

It is a moot point... NOTHING will happen but pain, despair and defeat... as long as the national socialist supreme leader dictates. All it would take to turn things around is to rescind all of this new spending... reinstate defense spending, drastically cut income tax rates... place a two year moratorium on Capital Gains taxes and cut ALL domestic spending by 10% below pre-hussein levels... and then get the heck out of the way... but like I stated... nothing but hard times and defeat stand in the path hussein has put this Nation on. 2010 had better start the turn around or we will not survive as the America we grew up in.

It is already not the America I grew up in...the one with decent jobs, health care as a benefit, people who went to church, pensions and 40 hour work weeks...college was not as expensive. I worked my way through state college with no student loans; this would pretty much be impossible today...unfortunately, we have outsourced the American dream. Tax cuts can’t work this time because Companies do not create jobs in America as they did in Reagan’s time. Ross Perot talked about the ‘giant sucking sound’, he was right. I don’t know what the answer is...I think you have to bring back a manufacturing base. Who knows?

.....This time Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States may well cooperate in secret with a powerful series of strikes on Iranian nuke facilities.....

Finally!! Finally someone besides Bert states the obvious.

My belief is that somewhere there is a sealed facility where officers from the Saudi military, the Israeli military, the Gulf States and the USA ( and possibly Iraq) gather if not every day, at least every month to review and update the plan.

When it happen, there will be coordinated effort. Iran is begging for it to happen

One could say with nearly 100% certainty that Iran will have nukes. Why? Because they already have enough enriched product to make some pretty nasty dirty-bombs (assuming they can’t already make the real thing). Nobody will risk an attack.

The time to do something about it is passed.

Companies would create many, many new well paying jobs if the fed would just get the hell out of the way. I will not join you in your depression... I will see America split into a Free Nation and a Socialist Nation before I give in and surrender... as long as I draw breath... I have faith in GOD and what he has gifted us with. I can endure until good conquers evil.

Exactly what sort of jobs can be created in a country that has given away its manufacturing base? You think millions of auto related or steel related jobs can be replaced?

We still have manufacturing jobs here... we build engines, computer chips, Outboard engines, transmissions, generators, plumbing supplies, pipe of all types, torque converters, control systems, cables of all kinds, ships, airplanes and many, many more things... and you are just a full of crap and a bitter depressed person.

We have very few manufacturing jobs...as demonstrated by the trade imbalance. You are living in the past. We do not manufacture much here and will manufacture much less if the autos go.
