Mass. lawmakers to ponder national popular vote bill

Should the winner of the presidential election be determined by the national popular vote and not by the Electoral College system?

A coalition of good government and civil rights activists thinks so, and they're gathering at the State House today to outline the National Popular Vote bill at a news conference before testifying for it at a hearing of the Joint Committee on Election Laws.

Under the proposed bill, all of the state's electoral votes would be awarded to the candidate who receives the most popular votes nationally.

this would be subjugation of other states, fundamentally changing the federal relationship.

It’ll never pass, but I would love to see the lib Mass lawmakers give away their electoral votes to candidate Romney in 2012 when he edges out Obama, even if Obama wins their state — imagine the screaming and howling from them. Like a thousand stuck pigs.

I suppose they will also be quite content with this change if a Republican presidential candidate receives the majority of the popular vote.

Frankly, we need to reconsider this business of the New England colony getting 6 Senators (which gives them 4 more electoral votes than they deserve).
