Documentary purports to rip GOP's closet doors
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5/8/9 | Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Posted on 05/08/2009 7:39:37 AM PDT by SmithL

California GOP Rep. David Dreier and a number of other politicians are the unwilling stars of a controversial new documentary with an explosive premise - it's time to blow open the closet door on prominent politicians who have hidden their homosexuality while actively working against gay causes.

The film "Outrage," which opens today at the Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco, presents interviews and documentation charging that a number of prominent legislators - including Dreier, the U.S. representative from San Dimas (Los Angeles County), Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and former New York Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat - have remained closeted while publicly opposing legislation on issues such as same-sex marriage, HIV/AIDS funding, and gays in the military.

Kirby Dick, the film's director, told The Chronicle on Thursday that "it's not only the right thing to do, it's the responsibility of journalists and filmmakers to report on hypocrisy wherever they see it.

"And just because it involves gay sexuality does not mean it should be off-limits."

The passage of Prop. 8 - the anti-same-sex-marriage initiative approved by voters in November, he said, has also fueled "a new urgency ... a wake-up call" on gay civil rights issues.

None of the lawmakers named in the film has publicly responded to the film's charges. But Dreir has in the past strongly dismissed such accusations as smear tactics.

Although the film notes Dreier has had just a 17 percent positive record on gay civil rights issues, the director says that even in the gay community, "there's a great deal of respect for him as a legislator."

Still, the purported outings that take center stage in "Outrage" have sparked a firestorm of controversy about the fairness and appropriateness of the tactic - and whether it signals a willingness of increasingly militant activists...

“Kirby Dick,”

Unfortunate name for a gay film director.

Charlie Crist isn’t gay, he just got married didn’t he? But that’s the thing about being gay - it’s impossible to PROVE you are not gay (can’t prove a negative). I could be gay. I’m not. But I can’t prove it. I’m not gay. But I might be.

This exemplifies the hypocrisy of the left...they preach that gay is good, that gay is normal, then the ultimate insult they can come up with against the GOP is that...we think these guys are gay! And they are doing it knowing and hoping that conservatives will be revolted by it. So they are fueling revulsion against gays as revenge for voting against gays. Not too smart.

This is reprehensible conduct.

If any of these guys want to tell us about their “secrets”, we’ll hear about it. Otherwise leave people alone.

Interesting that, on the one hand, the gay activists tell us that America is such a bigoted society, that is why many gays are in the closet. Then, on the other hand, now we need to “out” people against their will.

I wonder if these militant activists realize that they are doing more harm to their movement than good. The next time Calif. votes on gay marriage, for example, I think Perez Hilton will be featured in ads blasting Miss Calif. for having an opinion on marriage. Do these people really think that they help their cause by calling people bigots?

Hey! I have another idea! Let's destroy that girl from California -- because she doesn't like gays!

Hey! I have another idea! Let's just be filled with hatred and destroy everything we can!

Dreier and Christ are married to men? They go to a publicly funded clinic for AIDS treatment? They joined the military?

Does Dick even know what "hypocrisy" means? He made a film about something to defend a concept he doesn't understand the basics of?

I'm going to venture a guess that he's functioning with a mind ravaged by gay cancer.

I have no problem with David Drier’s sexual preference. What I admire is that he knows it is just that, a preference. A sexual urge. It does not make him part of a protected, special class of persons. It is not deserving of special “civil rights” protections, no more than pot smokers or gamblers are due them.

Just about the GOP? Obama opposes gay marriage, and Larry Sinclair could make a movie on him. How about the late Harold Washington of Chicago, gay as a mad hatter, and he didn’t support (or oppose for that matter) gay marriage, because no one had thought of the concept at the time.

That is totally the problem. Even if they ARE gay, that doesn’t mean they are hypocrites. I am a woman. I am pro-life. In the left’s eye, that makes me anti-women.

All that matters is that they believe that we're a bunch of knuckle-dragging, pitchfork and torch wielding, hate filled, banshees.

Therefore, based on that assumption, we should react in a certain manner or we're "hypocrites".

Remember when ‘Outing’ was supposed to be evil?

What’s this if not the same thing?

I knew about Drier. So what. The homosexual community doesn’t really understand the dynamics of heterosexuals and their view of homosexuals.

While I find the lifestyle to be repugnant, it’s not my goal in life to take homosexuals to task for their personal life choices. Where I draw the line is when they start acting like vile animals in public, when they try to trash heterosexual marriage so they can feel accepted, and when they try to proselytize young children.

Other that that, go do your thing in your bedroom and STFU.

Domestic partnerships are available to homosexuals. If all they wanted was to have legal cover, that would suffice. That’s not their goal at all, and we’re on to them. Too fricken bad!

There you go, that’s what I mean. “Oh he can’t be gay, he’s married. He can’t be gay, he’s got two kids. He can’t be gay I saw him on top of four naked women just yesterday.” Whatever the situation, it has been observed as being done by a guy that later turned out to be gay.

Those jackasses who made the film don’t realize there is a distinct difference between being “closeted” and keeping your private life private. Big difference between liking who you happen to like and making who you like define you and your complete lifestyle 24/7.

They seem to think that you are “closeted” if you are not an active mouthpiece of their agenda and constantly trying to push the gay agenda down everyone’s throats.

And they wonder why a majority of Americans would vote yes on a “nationwide Prop 8”.

Hey genius in the GLBT mafia, STOP CRAMMING IT DOWN OUR THROATS AND COURTS 24/7. The American people can be a tolerant people, but when push comes to shove and they have been pushed too far they will push back!

Is anyone else on this site as sick and tired of hearing about faggots every single day, all day long in the media? It never ends, faggots doing this, faggots doing that, this fag issue, that fag agenda, these fags pushing this into our schools, those fags in the priesthood, that fag cursing out Miss California, this fag screwing up Fannie Mae, fags fags fags, everywhere. Sorry, they aren’t everywhere, they are an incredibly minuscule percentage of our population and they are given far too much coverage, and far too many concessions.

Truthfully, gay issues are way down my list of priorities. There are so many more urgent problems that I don't waste time worrying about what some guys/girls are doing with each other. If they want to think of us as knuckle-dragging fundies, let them. They are outside of my sphere of concern. This is America. You can * each other if you want to.

I am concerned about the creeping socialism, tsunami spending, kissing up to terrorists and the upcoming rape of our Constitutional rights. I know how to make a torch, and I am looking for a good pitchfork on eBay.

The liberals and the gay community continually assailed us as absolutists when we agreed with President Bush that in the fight against terror and those who would destroy America “You are either with us or against us,” yet when it comes to who may or may not be gay and who is or is not in the closet this has been their mantra for years.

I didn’t happen to notice whether Anderson Cooper made their list...
