Obama switches to “borders first” rhetoric on immigration
Hot Air ^ | May 8, 2009 | ED MORRISSEY

During the campaign, Barack Obama ridiculed John McCain’s belated insistence on fixing border security before passing immigration reform. Now, though, Obama’s budget increases both the employee-verification system pushed by George Bush and the personnel and resources for border interdiction. Republicans cautiously cheered the change in direction, but think Obama just doesn’t have a handle on border issues:

Didn’t I just read somewhere today that he was cutting Federal Money to States for arrest and jailing of these illegal immigrants?

Interesting, considering his budget calls for no more fence to be built on the border...

The list, ping

His budget eliminates mony for border fence.

You have to watch what he does, not what he says.

The Bush administration’s final 2009 budget (which we are working under now) cut the border fence funding back to something like $50 million from a previous $600 million or so (more than $1 billion was appropriated over three years, but DHS spend half of it on the marginally functional “virtual fence”, basically handing over half the money to Boeing, without a lot to show for it). The idea was to get the first 700 miles built and see what works, where it works, etc., and then decide how to proceed. The Border Patrol has identified many more locations where the fence would be useful. The fence proved to work well in many places, so a rational decision would be to continue to build. All this latest budget posturing tells me that they don’t want to secure the border in ways that have proven effective. But they are willing to spend a lot of taxpayers’ money to make sure Mexico is safe from American guns, leading me to question exactly whose homeland they are defending.

Probably means nothing. Kyl, McCain, Schumer and others had their meeting very recently:

So, if Congress passes a bill this year, Obama plans to veto it until the border is secure? This all seems like a diversion to give Obama some cred with the 70% - 80% of Americans who oppose amnesty. Obama makes Clinton look like an amateur when it comes to lies and deceit.

Hussein is a posing liar.

Let's hope the Republicans call him out on it.

Or are they too busy wetting themselves, afraid of the media and Hussein's other pets?

IOW obama is going to do VIRTUAL Borders first in order to do a shell game ala 1986.

PROMISE to improve security and then NOT FUND THE FENCE since amnesty would have been passed.

NO PHYSICAL BARIER NO DEAL.
