Palin signs book deal with HarperCollins
ADN ^ | May 12, 2009 | Sean Cockerham

Gov. Sarah Palin has signed a book deal with HarperCollins Publishers for what is described as her memoir.

"There have been so many things written and said through mainstream media that have not been accurate, and it will be nice through an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about," Palin said in an interview today in which she announced the deal.

Palin and HarperCollins would not say how much she was being paid. Asked why, the former Republican nominee for vice president said she didn't want to distract from the substance of the book.

"The idea is to focus on the content of the book and what's coming in terms of me being able to tell my story unrestrained and unfiltered," Palin said.

The governor said details will be disclosed as required under Alaska law when her annual financial disclosures are due next March. Her advance from the publisher is likely to be paid in stages, though, and it's not clear if she has to disclose the full amount on that report or only the portion received in 2009, according to the state public offices commission.

Ethics complaints are already in the pipeline, no doubt.

I hope she makes more money than Obama, and can now afford to shove the ankle-biters back into their holes with her lawyers.

There has to be a whole team of lawyers out there that will challenge this. Imagine, a sitting politician writing a book and maybe making a little honest money on the side? /sarc

Two points:

1) Harper Collins is Rupert Murdoch’s publishing arm.

2) This is obviously going to be a campaign biography.

I hope she makes mega-bank and keeps as much as possible. I wouldn’t blame her at all if she simply decided to cash in rather than put up with the BS storm she faces everyday.

Just saw on Governor Palin’s Twitter page that yet another ethics complaint has been thrown out as frivolous. It’s a good day today!

I agree, the timing tells me she's seriously thinking about 2012.

Mick, FYI. The Guv has her book deal.

When can I order it? It’s sad that she probably had to do this to offset the legal bills the rats have caused her.
I sure hope she goes on a nationwide book tour to get her message out.

She should wear an Arctic Cat jacket on the cover.

Would love to know the size of the advance but there seems to be a tight lid on that. According to Politico, heavy-hitters were involved in the negotiations:
The deal was negotiated by Brian Murray, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers, with Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly.

I’m gonna buy 7 copies, one for everyday of the week. I am SO excited to read this book. It’s gonna ROCK!!! HarperCollins, now that is the big leagues. I wonder if she will do book tours. It’s scheduled for release sometime in 2010, once the advance orders come up I will buy it. Hmmm, good ideas for a cover? Any suggestions?

Just saw on Governor Palin’s Twitter page that yet another ethics complaint has been thrown out as frivolous.

2 complaints dismissed today, according to the latest.

Also, apparently her Alaska lawyer said today that the book deal has been pre-approved by the Alaska Dept. of Law and that any ethics complaints on the subject will be summarily dismissed.
