Notre Dame to be given 'Collaborator' status? Abortion opponents say rescind invitation or else

A pro-life group is warning that the University of Notre Dame may be given its "Collaborators" designation, a mark it reserves for those it considers the worst offenders in the war over abortion, because of its invitation to President Obama to speak at its commencement.

In a letter today to university officials, Leslie Hanks, chief of the Collaborators Project, wrote:

Because Notre Dame has extended the extraordinary honor of speaking at one of America's foremost Catholic colleges to one with such cavalier disregard for the sanctity of life, social tension is increasing exponentially in your community.

Collaborators Project was founded to do precisely that. Our motto is, "No Child Killing with Tranquility."

On the organization's Website, officials for the Collaborators Project said: "For their plan to honor Barack Obama, the leading pro-abortion advocate in America, the Collaborators Project is considering designating Notre Dame with Permanent Collaborator Status (PCS). If the university does not rescind their Obama invitation to deliver their commencement address on Sunday, May 17, 2009, the CP will designate Notre Dame with PCS.

"This would be only the second time in its history that the Collaborators Project has issued such a designation. If this occurs, the Collaborators Project will ask Indiana and Michigan pro-lifers to add Notre Dame to their ongoing anti-abortion protest itinerary," the group said.

Hanks explained to WND that only once before has the group awarded its Permanent Collaborator Status, to the Weitz Corp., which built Denver's Planned Parenthood megaclinic abortion facility.

"From that founding and the subsequent and ongoing protests of Weitz Corporation executive homes, we are gathering more support from citizens around the country, who still see a moral bright line which should never be crossed," the letter to Notre Dame said.

"Our nation has, sadly, almost forgotten her Declaration of

This is the first time I have posted a WND story in 5 or 6 years. I made an exception for this one, because nobody posted it today, and I think this is one that people need to be talking about.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment

Obama: “If they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

The muckety mucks at Notre Dame won’t care. They’re in it full bore now and it appears they will NOT back down, no matter who condemns it or what long range consequences befall it.

I am protesting in the one way I can. The moment Obama steps to the podium I become a former fan of the Fighting Irish. I will no longer set aside time on Saturday's to watch their football games. I will no longer tune in to their bowl games (if that ever happens again). I will never trek to a regional game, pay the big bucks and root for the visiting Irish. I will never again plunk down hard earned money for merchandise such as hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, blankets, pennants, footballs, assorted leprechaun apparel, and anything shamrock themed.

I think it is very telling that in light of all the controversy, Obama will not himself solve the problem and help people heal thei4r relationships by withdrawing...after all, it is all about him, and he feels empowered by his ability to draw stark divisions among the Catholic and prolife community. He believes that he benefits from this controversy, and the ND establishment are enthralled.

I’m a half Irish Catholic who went to Holy Cross, a 1-AA school. I have two brother who went to BC, so hating Notre Dame won’t be a problem for me. I’ve hated them for 15 years. Maybe longer. I’ve always hated how Irish people who didn’t go to ND still root for the school. How many Irish Catholic can there possibly be in Indiana?

hit ND where it hurts—it’s football program. Stop buying tickets. Stop buying merchandise.

Me thinks ND is doing a pretty good job of that on their own.

It is finally time that the Catholic Church acts decisively for once. The ineffective jawboning is enough. They must act in the form of direct and incontrovertible terms. Fr. Jenkins should immediately be removed from Notre Dame. The board of directors should be replaced.

Also, it is time for true excommunications. Enough of the half measures, the stating that politicians who openly defy the churches teachings excommunicate themselves is not effective. Public statements of the removal from the body of the Christ are more than overdue. It is time for the Church to grow the willpower to put their beliefs into action. That means excommunication of professed “pro-abortion Catholics” such as Ms. Sibelius, Ted Kennedy, Speaker Pelosi, John Kerry, Mayor Giuliani and others who pay lip service to the Catholic Church while their actions directly contradict the most important tenants of the Churches teachings.

I wonder if Obama has ever thought of this:

In just a few short years, some school nurse could whisk away one of his daughters to have an abortion.

It would be a great movie. The school gets before a judge and prevents the Secret Service from informing the President of his own child's abortion, much as happens every day elsewhere in the country.

It is finally time that the Catholic Church acts decisively

Their reputation for being lax is known and Jenkins knows it. If the Church doesn't take it'a own rules seriously how can they expect anyone else will. The Church knows we are on their side - but even if NO one was - they still should do the right thing and take away the Catholic affiliation. Evil always attaches itself to 'good' to give itself credence.

"It is finally time that the Catholic Church acts decisively for once."

I agree, but the importance of speaking out now goes beyond this event. If the Catholic Church fails to act decisively in dealing with this "the world is watching" event on such a clear and singular moral issue, it will lose a massive amount of moral authority.
