If you make big bucks — or enjoy alcohol, cigarettes and Coke — the government might hit you up to pay for fixing the nation’s health care system.
On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee peeked into vending machines and liquor stores, company payrolls and health savings accounts, looking for a mix of tax increases and spending cuts as a way to pay for a health overhaul — which could cost more than $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
Conservatives will distill, grow and roll their own astounding their friends and confusing the government.
Only till there are no more smokers or drinkers. Then it will be people who eat and breathe.
It wasn't broke until the dems decided they wanted to take it over. Out came the trial lawyers, the price skyrocketed, and now we have a "crises." Good thing the dems are here to save us from .......them?
The court case involving a Wickard v. Filburn will take precedent.
My projection, if they increase taxes on tobacco, liquor, and soft drinks, it will cut down on consumption, resulting in less revenue than they had predicted from the consumption tax.
Plus a cut back on consumption of those products mean the corporations that produce them don’t make as much profit, don’t pay as much tax because they don’t make as much profit, and they will probably have to cut back on their workforce, resulting in layoffs.
Sometimes politicians can’t see beyond the end of their nose when it comes to action/reaction scenarios.

The Supreme Court majority that decided the 2005 case Gonzales v. Raich relied heavily on Filburn in upholding the power of the federal government to prosecute individuals who grow their own medicinal marijuana pursuant to state law. In Raich, the court held that, as with the home grown wheat at issue in Filburn, home grown marijuana is a legitimate subject of federal regulation because it competes with marijuana that moves in interstate commerce. As the Court explained in Gonzalez:
Wickard thus establishes that Congress can regulate purely intrastate activity that is not itself “commercial,” in that it is not produced for sale, if it concludes that failure to regulate that class of activity would undercut the regulation of the interstate market in that commodity.
Jenny Granholm says revenue decline is “breathtaking”. And this is before the new tax increase.

Isn’t that what’s going on now? So many people unemployed, it’s cut down on tax receipts for local, state, and federal governments.
It is my belief that their “bating” us. See how far they can go before we get riled up. That’s probably when they’ll implement martial law and imprison anyone who doesn’t go along with their agenda.
They are talking about adding a 25 cent tax on a gallon of fuel here in Texas - it’s on talk radio this morning.
CA's SALES tax revenues were down 50% in April from the previous year. Unemployed people don't buy as much, but also even the employed have cut back on spending. Vehicle purchases account for the lion's share of most states' sales tax revenues and nobody's buying cars.
Taxing soda pop, cigarettes and gasoline hurt the poor the most. The lefties, while whining for the poor, exploit them for their own gain.

The powers that be are losing control. The grasshoppers have outnumbered the ants, and the grasshoppers are still demanding more. They want to feed, feed, feed. Without free food, there's no democrat base.
This is going to get worse - much worse, because the ants are refusing to used as slaves. The only way to get the ants to cooperate is by force. Were there's force, there's even more resistance.
If they want a REAL vice tax, or sin tax - WHY don’t they tax ABORTIONS? That would help to make up for the Social Security shortfall that the Supreme Court’s abortion edict caused.
Same goes for fuel. Even though the price came down, people still aren’t buying as much or much more than they need for work, etc.
I guess they’ll never understand that when you tax (screw) the people long enough, the people will stop spending.
