Can Wanda Sykes Save the GOP? (John Batchelor Barf Alert)
Daily Beast ^ | May 13, 2009 | John Batchelor

Posted on 05/13/2009 6:37:59 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

The stand-up comedian Wanda Sykes took only seconds in her disciplined 15 minutes at the White House Correspondents' Dinner—a naughty performance that mocked both Barack Obama and Rush Limbaugh—to lay out a vision for the Republican Party. Of course, Sykes didn’t mean to help the GOP, yet in the manner of a prophet she climbed up on the mountaintop of C-SPAN at the precise moment that the glamorous tribes of Washington, New York, and Hollywood had gathered to worship, and she spoke the words that came to her as if from a special effects Yahweh. Wanda Sykes articulated a simple vision. She pictured a day in the distant future when the Republican Party will be free of its childlike dependence upon burlesque acts like Rush Limbaugh and his acolytes; free of their droning, repetitive excuses that the attack on New York and Washington gives them writ to bait and bully everyone who isn’t on the burlesque stage with them.

Wanda Sykes did all this when she was struck by lightning and said, “I think maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker, but he was so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight.” Then, in case we missed the reference to Limbaugh’s documented and illicit chemical dependency: “He hopes the country fails. I hope his kidneys fail, how ‘bout that…”

This bold and transforming remark was so potent that it frightened everyone official whose job depends upon behaving sensitively in public. The opaque Robert Gibbs at the White House press briefing the next morning ran away from the meaning of it all by saying that 9/11 is not a proper subject for humor. Bill Bennett’s dismissal of Wanda Sykes was performed on TV with slow-witted, swollen indignation, “This is why Elaine Bennett and I don’t go to these things…”

It seems obvious to me that Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich are moving into leadership roles within the party.

I’d love to see Cheney move more into a leadership position although his “endorsing” Jeb bush was disappointing. On the other hand, newt and his endorsing globull warming should be neutered.

“Republican Party will be free of its childlike dependence upon burlesque acts like Rush Limbaugh... .”

compared to the immature likes of Jon Anderson, Conan OBrien, Jay Leno, Letterman, etc., Limbaugh is a wise, astute wizard.

John Batchelor can go the way of Colon Bowel as far as I'm concerned.

Rush is not the problem, RINOs are. Listening to that POS Lawrence O’Dumbass conservatives are only 13% now? More like 60% of the party and we're not going anywhere. If we lead they will follow.

...and the problem is the [GOP's] party’s addiction to hambone performers who each day claim to be speaking for the so-called conservative base of the Republican Party.

WTF?? This clown has no clue what the problem is. Saying Rush, Hannity, Bortz, et al are the problem is an attempt to deflect the real problem, lest the GOP repair itself down the road. The fact is, the GOP lacks the will, the courage, the discipline, to adhere to the fundamental principles of a pro-business, small government, low taxes approach to running the country. Personally, I think the remaining conservatives in this country should pledge their efforts to purge the GOP of all RINO's, from Lugar and McCain on down the line. The current cadre of GOP's in office have leaned across the isle once too often and never get a damn thing in return. Grow a pair, guys, and start taking our country back before you permanently f#@$ it up.

Well Wanda Sykes..The next time you are crying, and wondering why no one would step up and do the right thing for you when you need it...You need only think back to this episode in your life, to know why.

Mr. Batchelor can take an abysmal performance by a comedienne and call it “transformative”? Has he been hired to sabotage the Republican Party?

Used to look forward to Bachelor’s radio program, now it’s all left wing clap trap. Even the music has gone south.

Long ago he had a late Sunday evening program on WABC radio out of NY metro.

Batchelor and Alexander. Then Alexander insulted Monica Crowley on air and he was banished.

Soon Batchelor was gone too. He’s returned with this mealy mouthed lame program. Can’t imagine his ratings being anything but dismal.

Not only was that line "hate speech" but the line before was an outright lie that she created out of whole cloth and falsely attributed to Rush in order to justify her hate.

"Rush Limbaugh? 'I hope America fails'...."

He has NEVER EVER said that..in fact he argues just the OPPOSITE.

Wanda Skanks knows that. But she also knows her audience was dumber than a box or rocks.

I think it was Skyes a few years ago, at some type of awards show, that was speaking all sorts of trash. She then stuck a microphone in front of Mr. Bill Cosby, who was sitting in an aidle seat, and asked how he was successful or something like that. The Cos retorted, we spoke english. a classic tv moment. Anyway Skyes hasn’t changed much, still classless.
