Ritter vetoes gun check exemption (CCW holders don't trust "Critter" either)

Gov. Bill Ritter has vetoed a bill that would have exempted some gun buyers from background checks, saying it contains "inadequate safeguards" to prevent ineligible people from buying firearms.

The bill would have allowed holders of valid concealed-handgun permits to avoid mandatory criminal background checks by presenting that permit along with one other piece of identification when buying a gun.

Critics said there would be no way to guarantee that the current holder of a concealed-weapons permit surrendered it in the event of their arrest for a violent felony. A person in that circumstance would not be eligible to purchase a handgun but would be able to avoid the background check by showing the concealed-weapon permit.

But can they name an occasion when that has ever happened?

This is from a person who, when Colorado Attorney General, would reduce charges on immigrants charged with felonies to a misdemeanor charge called “Agricultural Trespass” and then release them back onto the streets. One Mexican heroin smuggler was released in this way and went on to rape a minor in California. Who knows how many other people were harmed by felony crimminals Ritter released.

By immigrants I mean illegal immigrants. The defense attorneys would often get US citizens to claim they were illegals so they could get released in this way. Typical tyrant: coddle evil crimminals and persecute the honest citizens.

The Dem House and Senate passed the bill! I was shocked. Maybe the deal was in that Ritter would veto it so the Dems could pass the bill so as to not damage reelection chances.

You weren't really shocked I hope. Do you know who runs that place these days?

No, I mean that the Colorado House and Senate passed the bill exempting CCW holders from the background checks when purchasing a firearm. They would only show CCW and another form of ID. That is how it got to CRitter’s desk to be vetoed.

“But can they name an occasion when that has ever happened?”

That is the starter question, and I am willing to bet $100 it has never happened.
A clue for Ritter is that if there had been such an occasion in Colo, an anti-gunner would have brought it to his attention and given him the details.

Further, he has to assume HIS state failed to require surrender of the permit as a condition of bail. It is not like the state doesn’t know the holder in its custody has the permit.

I still don’t know how Ritter got to be Governor (I lived there back when he was D.A.). I was part of a group who protested his office once when he was trying to get the Tattered Cover to release records on which book a customer had purchased there... I’d bet he still hasn’t read either the State or Federal Constitution...
