ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A boy's body has been found buried in the sand of a playground at a public park on the city's northeast side, and police are asking the public for their help as detectives try to find out who the child is.

Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said during a news conference late Friday that police have had no reports of missing children.

"We have detectives standing by to respond to any information anyone can provide us about this missing juvenile. We believe that he may be missing from the neighborhood," the chief said.

The boy — believed to be 3 to 5 years old — was wearing a red short-sleeve shirt with the image of a four-wheel drive truck on the front, black nylon pants with red stripes and black shoes. Police showed a photograph of the boy's clothing during the news conference in hopes that someone might recognize it.

Sad isn’t it? I wonder if it’s a family thing where something bad happened and they buried the child. Could be why no report of a missing child.

I almost posted a way-out-on-a-limb guess about mommy’s new boyfriend.

But I had a bit of difficulty imagining an adult selecting that burial site.

How far away is this from the child taken at gun point from his home last week? Could have easily changed clothes.

If no child is reported missing, I’m pretty sure that his family did this, and DIDN’T report him missing.

They should be questioning the local schools, etc. for a tally on the local children.

Didn’t even think of that! You could be right - he was taken from San Bernardino, CA and it’s only about a 10 hour drive.

There is some sort of sick message in the burying a child in a children's playground. Pedophile? Message to whoever loved the child and perhaps has other children? Drug exchange location?

Thanks for that update Yorkie!

I honestly figured he was taken as a message to his family -drug money owed or something - and wouldn’t make it either.

Thank goodness! What a sick society we have when people steal a child right out of his own home though.

That nutcase from Atlanta is still in jail...right? Wayne Williams if I remember correctly. He seemed to have a ‘thing’ for kids and playgrounds.

I watched the report on the news last night and the reporter made it sound like the boy was barely buried in sand- in fact the way the body was found was that a lady saw a tennis shoe sticking up out of the sand and realized there was a foot/leg attached- they said she of course freaked out and called 911.

It seems very strange that an adult would bury a child this way and in a playground no less. If they wanted him to be found right away for some reason then why bury him at all?

It is so very sad, and strange.

Someone didnt pay fat Billy his cut?

This is what happens when liberals create sanctuary cities. It is not only the total disregard for life, it is the total disregard to all other laws of the US and of this state.

Update - autopsy found no apparent cause of death.

“There were no obvious signs or cause of death,” Albuquerque police spokesman John Walsh said Saturday after receiving the results of a preliminary autopsy from the state Office of the Medical Investigator.

Saddened neighbors made a makeshift memorial of stuffed teddy bears, toy trucks and flowers at the base of the playground equipment at Alvarado Park in northeast Albuquerque and planned to hold a candlelit memorial for the boy in the park Saturday night.

About 50 police investigators who went door-to-door Saturday asking neighbors for help in identifying the 3- to 5-year-old boy also came up empty-handed, Walsh said.
