Cal tech is saying that it was on the north end of the Newport-Inglewood fault, the same as the 1933 earthquake. During that one, there was a big pre-shock two days before the big one.

Hey Ernest, take a trip east on Tuesday.

The stress on that fault is nuts. And with the quakes in Alaska too, something is ready to turn loose.

Well, if it is really big, I’ll either be livin’ on an island — or underwater.

As it is, I just noticed new cracks in the wall... bummer!

Being in between the two in a seismically active area, that doesn't make me feel so great!

Well, according to the movie, ‘The Big One’, you’ll be on an island. And we know Hollywood is always right. :)

I miss seeing the towering thunderheads and the lighting in the tornado alley...

7.4 would definitely be a killer — literally.

I’ve lived through Sylmar, Whittier, Northridge, and all the little ones in between.

I’d hate to see a bigger one — especially if it was in a populated area.

Saw some doozeys in Nebraska last year. And we get a few in Michigan from time to time. They don’t develop near the lakeshore, but I can look inland and get incredible views of massive thunderheads. Its pretty cool.

Wow - so many on FR from California - this is encouraging - I thought your state was totally liberal! Hoping the big one doesn’t come!

Whatever. All I know is that 66 people died — many of them just down the street from me.

I hereby dedicate the scars on my wife’s hands (injured during the quake) to your earthquake prowess.

We’ll be having a couple of ‘earthquakes’ on that day anyway. They’ll be announcing the money grab of city revenues, and probably announcing they’re releasing most of the ‘non-residents’ in the prison system because Obama cut off payment for them.

Yep! There are tons of California FReepers... conservatives, too! LOL.

I think the biggest earthquake in U.S. History was in St. Louis, MO.

You can’t predict them so I don’t worry much.

I remember the 1989 quake. We were watching the World Series at Michigan State and went through it with Al Michaels.

One of my dogs had gone to bed in the other room, the other did act strangely - he was laying on the back step that faces
Northwest- he never lays there, usually up on the soft cushions of the chair or sofa.
I picked him up and brought him in the house and shut the french door and locked it. Two minutes later the quake hit. Sounded like a train rushing toward that side of the house before it hit and then the house rocked and rolled.
Amazing that nothing fell off the wall or shelves.
