Democrats fix sights on GOP prosecutor (NC!)

John Edwards admits federal investigators are asking him questions. Federal subpoenas were issued Friday related to Mike Easley.

As the separate federal probes into a former senator and the former governor are emerging, Democrats are taking steps to replace the Republican prosecutor who is spearheading the inquiries about the highest-profile North Carolina Democrats of the past decade.

All the nearly 100 top federal prosecutors across the country serve at the will of the president. Any replacement for U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding, a Bush appointee who has kept a priority on public corruption cases from Raleigh to the coast, will be subject to U.S. Senate confirmation.

The process gives a key role in the decision to U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, a Democrat who was in the state Senate leadership for several years until she unseated Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole in November. Already, Hagan has formed a panel to screen candidates. It is led by Burley Mitchell, former chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court who now works at the Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice law firm.

Yeah, right. We’ll see how this one plays out.

Funny, though. Nary a word from the Raliegh “News and Observer” of the hell the Democrats put President Bush through for wanting to get rid of some Democrat AG.

This guy will be fired and you won’t hear a word about it.

Yep - same as it ever was...

For those outside of NC, we are a blue state when it comes to state elected positions but a red state (normally) on the Presidential level. All the “transplants” are starting have an effect on the national vote here.

Switch the party affiliation of the subjects involved, and this would be on the front page of the NY Slimes, and would be a big story on all of the network news broadcasts.

Isn’t it funny how John Edwards has seemed to just vanish from the media since his little ‘problem’ came about? If he were a republican, there would be an entire Newsweak series dedicated to the story, and he would be under indictment for something.

I cancelled my subscription to the News & Observer back during Clinton's days in office...have never regreted that decision...that rag isn't even worth using as birdcage liner and besides, I wouldn't do that to my bird...a monthly donation to FR is money much better spent...

In addition, the NC Highway Patrol’s financial records for 2005 are missing. As they maintain the security for the Governor, these records are potential evidence in the Sleasly investigation. However the Democrats are saying that an inquiry into the matter is just partisan politics.
