WASHINGTON – Sen. Robert C. Byrd, 91 and the longest-serving senator in history, was hospitalized last Friday with a temperature spike evidently caused by a minor infection, his office announced Monday.

Byrd, a West Virginia Democrat, "is being treated with antibiotics, responding well and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days," the office said in a statement.

Byrd has been in Congress since 1952 and was first elected to the Senate six years later.

The W.V. governor, although Dem, is supposedly an NRA member and pro-life. If Byrd kicks it, it would be interesting to see who he appoints.

I wish him well. At times I have hated him,but he redeemed himself in my eyes when he sent the Kenyan Marxist a letter and told him he was abusing his executive power. He is believes the Constitution matters and he a Christian. Beliefs matter more to me than party.

Just like all of the other old-time Senators.....they won’t “retire” until you pry their dead cold fingers from their office chairs.

For them, the only “Term” limit is when they’re TERMinal.

That is good to hear. I had always assumed it would be better for Byrd to remain in the Senate since he does not have the radical leftist voting record of Jay Rockefeller.

He’s 91. He won’t have a retirement. The only thing keeping him alive is screwing with the Constitution. Take that away from him and he’ll be dead within 6 months.

So lets keep the pressure on for him and Kennedy to rerire!

Robert Byrd on Life issues. 50% NRLC rating, 43% NARAL rating. IOW, a squish, hardly "pro life" in any meaningful sense of the word.

Not necessarily. The new NY senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, had a decent pro-2A record before she got appointed to Shrillary's seat. She caved to the anti-gun crowd in less than 2 weeks, IIRC.

The few Dems with any sense of morals and law seem to lose them, in inverse proportion to the amount of power they gain and how far they move "up the ladder" in politics.

Re-read my post. I wrote about the governor of WV, not Senator Byrd.

That’s gotta be the most frightening hierarchical structure I’ve ever seen.

Lucky for him it is before our socialized medicine kicks in. Another one too old to waste resources on in our upcoming free healthcare for all society>

Such rules and practices will be for the Ruled, not the Rulers.

I don't think I much like what it says about our country that the longest serving Senator is from the party which gets the vast majority of the black vote, yet is a former Klan Kleegle.

Oh, well, the Democrat party was established to win elections, not to have any sort of fixed ideology. Most especially not that ideology practiced by the Whigs who comprised our Founding Fathers, Federalist and anti-federalist alike.

my revulsion over his klan history and anger over his decades long Porkulus Spendarama down in West Virginia has been overtaken by pity for an old and sick man who seems to have lost most of his mental faculties. His last few turns at the Senate rostrum were painful to watch.

Sorry ... read it too quickly. Yes, Joe Manchin is a ‘Rat ... but hardly among the most loathsome. There’s an issue right now with a public rifle range in Berkeley County that will certainly be an interesting test of his mettle on 2A matters.
