That should read a Catholic/Protestant division within the Hispanic voters, they are not a "Hispanic" voting block.
I have to really disagree with you on that one. Hispanics in California are a huge voting block, regardless of their religion. Yes, they may be somewhat influenced by their religion but most have this countrys future in mind as well as their own. They, like us, have different opinions.....we need to start listening to those opinions. The problem I see is that most don’t know our history and how we got here. This fact makes it extremely difficult to get through to them. They have a very strong tie to the Hispanic way of life.
You are so right. In a capsule, that phrase says exactly why the GOP is so idiotic.
(I'm not addressing only the Catholic part, but in total)
The elitist GOPers think all Hispanics voters are alike. In picking candidates, they look for a pretty face whose name ends in "ez" and, if they find a candidate desireable enough to join their Rockefeller silk-sock club, they'll back them. Unfortunately, conservatives like Marco Rubio are persona non grata and need not apply.
It's really insulting that they pander to the most extreme views of the Hispanic community (La Raza, LULAC, etc) and treat Hispanic voters as only a tool as opposed to constituents. That is why the GOP is not popular to Hispanics. They see McCain as a self-serving hypocritical politician, as do I.
And when their internet trolls set out on the great WWW and call people "bigots" or "extremist right wingers" or "one issue voters," all they do is further the opposition to their obvious pandering. I think I saw an accusation on this thread that conservatives want to deny Mexican Americans their culture. WHAT? I'm from California. The Mexican American culture is fully entwined in most every element of our lives... it is a shared culture. That said, I'm not ready to support turning the Coliseum into a bull fighting stadium -- but I'm not so sure McShamensty wouldn't support it.
