Are Jesuits even Catholic anymore? I mean, technically?

To be a Catholic, one need only declare oneself to be Catholic. That is the standard.

Reese is a major CINO. From Wikipedia:

Fr. Reese resigned after seven years as the editor of America due to pressure from the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Over a period of five years, the congregation objected to various editorial decisions made by Reese concerning certain issues addressed in the magazine, notably priestly celibacy and the ordination of women. Following his resignation, Reese spent a year-long sabbatical at Santa Clara University before being named a fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center in Washington, D.C. While at Georgetown, Rev. Reese defended the hiding of Christ's name during President Obama's speech, using a black colored piece of plywood. Rev. Reese argued that this was sound "communications strategy" since Christ's name could be distracting to viewers of the speech. Many critics of the decision believe that Rev. Reese is an apostate who should be defrocked.

This guy needs to go. What a total disgrace to the Church!!!!

Poor dumb bishops.

Yep. The shepherds are themselves but meek little lambs. If they were less manly, they would be Republican senators.

Reese is a well documented heretic masquerading as a Priest.

Why is he still allowed to wear the collar?!?!?!?

Simply as an intermediate strategy pro-life people should join with Obama in doing everything possible to reduce the number of abortions. Not to do so is to put politics above the life of the unborn

Who amongst us doesn't fight to reduce the number of abortions?

This so-called priest's rationalization for supporting a pro abortion President is breath taking. There is no need to waste 45,000 per year to send your student to a Catholic University because the University more than likely doesn't teach or support Catholicism.

I'm certain these very same "priests" were properly distraught at the sex abuses of their fellow "priests'; yet abortion is an issue upon which we must find common ground. What worse abuse might there be than abortion?

My thoughts exactly! It is time that the Catholic Church culled the herd> I believe that a public excommunication of large swaths of the heretical priests would quickly increase the rolls of the seminaries. Also, the PUBLIC excommunication of Pro-Abortion politicians would increase both the attendance at mass and conversions to the Church. A church that is tolerant of heresy in its ranks can not be taken seriously. This is the exact problem with the Catholic Church today.

“To be a Catholic, one need only declare oneself to be Catholic. That is the standard. “
______________-

This is not true. Conversion to Catholicism takes a long time and requires education, and reception of appropriate sacraments as well as a Catholic sponsor. I’ve been a sponsor and can tell you that it is a process that requires sincere reflection.

he spoke beyond them to the wider audience of Catholic citizens and presented a demeanor that contrasted with those who tried to paint him as a demonic, anti-life fanatic

You look at people's actions, policies and track record, not what they say. Obama's history as an extreme anti-life politician is objective fact, while his nice sounding moderate general platitudes are just designed to lure pro-lifers into complacency while he's implementing his agenda. Whether Reese is a fool for buying this or an unscrupulous person who actually wants to combat Catholic teaching on abortion, I don't know.

"FRiends, this is nothing more nor less than political strategy.
And why? Why make such an effort to beguile Catholics?

Because a) our vote really matters and b) he's attempting things as president that no real Catholic would countenance for an instant. He's on the offensive.

Their functional premise is that the media will never, ever portray the true doctrine to anyone, and therefore that lax Catholics can be fooled into thinking that anyone and everyone who "protests" what happened at Notre Dame is a "right wing extremist," and God knows nobody wants to be one of those.

However, this is a faulty strategy, because the Church ain't General Motors, and Obama can't change the law of the Church like he did the laws affecting credit and commerce. The Church will speak the truth, Catholics will get it, and will respond with a conviction that will make the head of this presumptuous liar spin.

Obama, you've f&*ked up."
============
Well said.

Adding to that, I am only aware of three items to consider as positive results of Obama being invited to receive an Award.

1. Father Pavone and others were back in Press and on FOX News being given critically important air-time for their views. They are the only ones who made sense in all this horrific mess.

2. This event shined a spotlight on what a hypocrite our current Resident is, and how hypocritical and transparently weak and brittle the "leadership" is at Notre Dame.

3. That Notre Dame stands to lose a LOT of donation money (one quote is that they've already lost $18 million). Ongoing. With all good fortune, Notre Dame may be forced to actually become a Catholic University once again. The transition process will be forceful. It has begun......in the Grotto. (Major Kudos to all the students and supporters who has their ceremony in the Grotto).

Important video to watch is HERE. All about Notre Dame's confused and contentious decision to honor obama. Great Quotes. HERE. Compiled by an ND Alumnus.

President Obama showed himself to be respectful of Catholic views, of Catholic institutions like Notre Dame and of Catholic leaders like Notre Dame's former president, Father Ted Hesburgh, and Chicago's former archbishop, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.

In other words, That One was respectful of all those views held by liberal Catholics in the last 30 years who have been hell bent on changing the Church to suit their own personally held beliefs.

Those are NOT the views of the Catholic Church, herself, nor of the millions of FAITHFUL Catholics in the United States.

Bambi effectively nationalized the Catholic Church yesterday, taking it over just the way he has taken over every other industry.

No, he didn't. He may have dazzled the liberal Catholics with his 'brilliance', but we who sit in the pews every Sunday, and many of the more outspoken Bishops, recognize the bullsh*t, and are standing against it.

Who amongst us doesn't fight to reduce the number of abortions?

Who? Obama and his followers of free love. Obama and his homosexual supporters that throw HIV parties. Obama and his supporters that find open relationships acceptable.

The devious detail here is that while Obama wants pro-lifers to focus on preventing unwanted pregnancies or helping adoption, he is also engaged in cultural destruction that will so overwhelm the pro-lifers efforts that they will finally give up.

With all the hoopla before he spoke, I was hoping . . . just hoping that something good would REALLY come out of this. However .. . deep inside I knew it would all be played out just as it was on Sunday. A heckler or two in the back, standing ovations and well written words and no damage done to him or the dems. BO is an in-your-face guy with a huge agenda to push through. NOTHING will stand in his way.

Bambi effectively nationalized the Catholic Church yesterday, taking it over just the way he has taken over every other industry.

With the help of traitors on the inside, such as Jenkins and the herd of dumbos chanting “yes we can” at the graduation, he stripped it away from its legitimate directors, the bishops and Rome, and essentially made himself its central figure.

I think you're confusing the church with Notre Dame.

Let's face it: Notre Dame, BC, and many other Catholic colleges ... aren't Catholic, and haven't been Catholic for 30-40 years now. They were stolen from us by the cultural left in the 1960's. President Bozo was just showing up yesterday to be worshipped, having already installed himself in the temple as their new god.

The bishops can remove Notre Dame's right to call itself "Catholic," but all that does is ratify formally what has been true in fact for decades.

Some members of the Church will speak the truth.

Others have already shown that they will not.
