Person shot at Harvard residence hall

A person was shot this evening at the entrance of a Harvard University residence hall, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the male victim, who was shot in the abdomen, was a student.

Sergeant James DeFrancisco of the Cambridge Police said that after authorities were alerted about 4:50 p.m. they found the victim on Dunster Street, outside Kirkland House, one of Harvard's 12 undergraduate houses. DeFrancisco said the victim was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition.

The Cambridge and Harvard police departments blocked off streets near the shooting and were searching for an assailant, according to a message sent to the Harvard community. University officials asked students to remain where they are and report unusual activity to the Harvard Police Department.

The Harvard Crimson, citing a witness who attends Harvard Dental School, said a person who appeared to be college-aged had been shot. The victim was bleeding but conscious when emergency responders arrived.

An obvious reporting area, as Harvard is a gun-free zone.

Hood comes to Harvard. There’s gotta have been a movie made about this already.

It was not immediately clear whether the male victim, who was shot in the abdomen, was a student.

Since seems to be "immediately clear," how is this dufus so sure the guy who was shot was the victim?

Is this the first shooting they’ve ever had at a private school? I think they haven’t had any shootings at private elementary /HS but I don’t know about college

Without reading the article, since it is Harvard - I will assume they shot heroin or meth?

“The person shot was a male victim.”
How about just saying ‘man shot’?

I remember a guy I went to high school with in the 60s , who I think won the “Harvard Book Award” in our highly rated Suburban Chicago high school, went to Harvard, and in his residence hall,in his first year, blew his brains out. Can’t seem to find this on the internet, but maybe that’s because the even pre-dates the ‘net; it probably happened in ‘65. Can any of you verify this for me, through some avenues of research you may know about that I don’t? I’ll provide his name only through private FR mail.

Your local library may have a subscription to the Globe or Times online. I can pull up any New York times front page from the mid-19th century on. I came across the original review for The Great Gatsby once. You should be able to find it.

The women in Boston would have gone into vapors seeing that word (man) in bold letters. Have to be gentle with those Harvard feminists.

this is the movie where the shooter wasn’t “reached out to” like the Univ of Chicago didn’t do with Me-shelle

Here comes another assault on our LTC rights in Massachusetts.

If the guy had been beaten with a baseball bat Harvard would be out to ban Little League.

The Harvard dormitory where the shooting occurred is in an urban area. While Harvard, and its dorms are in what is generally a very safe neighborhood, anyone from the surrounding area can just walk right up to the buildings. It is not like some other college campuses which are separated from the rest of the city.
