APS police have a wealth of tips to prevent things like student fights and illegal activityand they're getting the information from students' personal web pages.
At Albuquerque High, there are three police officers on campus watching over about 1,900 students. What the officers have discovered is that patrolling in cyberspace can be as or more effective than patrolling the hallways. When Sgt. Paul Schaefer isn't in the hallways, he's at his desk checking students' MySpace and Facebook pages for any threats or hints of violence that could be around the corner.
"Anytime something is going on, usually we find out about it pretty quick," he said.
This type of monitoring is called "cyber-patrol" and officers at pretty much every middle and high school in Albuquerque are doing it.
Officers can only check pages that are posted as publicsome private pages can't be accessed. But Schaefer says the public ones have provided plenty of valuable information.

Not one high school, all of them.
The waste of man power is insane and the indoctrination is amazing....
Tell me everything you know , I'll bust your neighbor.
How about a real street presence, how about not having armed hallways.
I didn’t know how many had seen this....
This is a tremendous opportunity for someone to play enormous head games with the police.
All you need is a myspace or facebook account that looks like it’s about school in ABQ and you are a player!
You could convince them there is a huge jenkem problem, and watch them try to fix it.
Meet you at menaul and Louisiana for a jenkem party in my white 2005 van!
NM Ping
I love the “white van”. Drive them crazy determining which white van is the culprit.
Oh look, someone has discovered “Thought Crime” again.
Thanks for the info. Currentriverrat.
Nothing surprises me anymore. The scary part is that we only know a tiny bit of what is happening.
Jenkem is a hoax drug. It’s made up of raw sewage and something else, in a 2 litre Coke jug, allowed to ferment in the sun, kids inhale the vapors through a straw to get an addictive high.
It caused quite a stir among the Drug Warriors a while back, but it does not exist.
It’s good that it does not exist. But, as I said, nothing surprises me anymore.
Waterboarding’s the answer. I just saw a whole group of fire department emergency vehicles arrive at the local park along with paramedics. While wondering what was going on from afar, I saw the FD open the high pressure hose on a bunch of elementary and middle school students. Amid screams for the cold water hitting them, I suspect the problem was solved. Teach’em young.
Maybe someone could do a composite sketch of the white van.
LOL
*LOL* - Post a composite sketch of the van and the ‘drugs’ to your webpage.
