In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7 million last year to help the poor and to medical research.

According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday, the Cheneys' adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.

The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney's stock options from Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.

The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to several charities, including George Washington University's Cardiothoracic Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.

Boy! That picture with Cheney looking at BO is telling! It’s like he’s saying, “I’d like to pop you one you little jug eared commie”. “Go back to Kenya”.

When do you think this item will show up on CNN, PMSNBC or the AP wire?

Which goes right back into his pocket for running the causes, which he in turn gives back to the causes, which goes back into his pocket.. and so on... This is how he keeps his green businesses appearing operational.

Sounds like he almost has a money laundering scheme going on.

It is an old story and occasionally it does surface but only grudgingly.

I believe you can deduct only up to 50% of your income. On the 27.89% excess above that that the Cheneys are giving, they get no break this year from Uncle Sam.

Oh, they’re very charitable. The difference being, they want take away OUR money so they can give it away, while Cheney gives away HIS OWN money.

I like Cheney’s cloak and dagger outfit he has on in the first pick.

In that second photo, why does he look so much like Mussolini? Or was that the intent.

What a contrast to Obama and his wife!

And Al Gore. And John Kerry. And...most every Demonrat. They talk a good game, and the media laps it up like a hungry dog, but when it comes to actually, you know, GIVING AWAY MONEY TO THE POOR, Republicans and conservatives come out way on top.

Notice, by the way, that this was a 2005 charitable gift - the 2004 election (his last political campaign) was long over when he and his wife did this, meaning that it was done purely from the heart, not for any kind of career gain.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President, for being a thoroughly decent human being!! Damn, but I miss you being the one a heartbeat away, and I tremble in fear at the thought of that big-mouthed dimwit Biden becoming President.

I believe that the kenyan's true talent is that with those ears, he can actually hear what people are thinking.

Or perhaps Cheney used the Jedi mind trick on him?

...and Dubya looks like he’s checking his pockets for that 64 oz can of whoopass from just after 11 Sep. I miss my old CinC.

She should be imploring them to produce, to build, to design, to grow, to make money. Giving back isn’t a goal. The goal should be to achieve success so you don’t need to be given anything. I don’t deduct my charity. I help people directly. It is not Uncle Sam’s business and I don’t need a write off for the money I give man or God. I do hope to give more but on my own terms.

OK, OK, let's get this thing right. To the extent that any charitable gift exceeds 50% of your Adjusted Gross Income (bottom figure on page 1 of your 1040), you carry it forward for up to 5 years. Cheney did get all of the deduction for this, just not until later.

Which doesn't diminish this huge gift in the least.

What a contrast to Obama and his wife! Yeah. Something like 0.05%? What a couple of scumbags.

From Obama's 2000-2006 tax returns:

Biden's the real cheapskate:

exactly

You have to build a nest egg before you can start giving it away- that is what the young should be encouraged to do.

Shelley is a huge hypocrite (surprise) because all accounts of their lives are that she has always taken care to complain and get paid off pad her nest while giving back very slim pickings- and even that to black charities only

Thanks for the info. I guess that proves my point to a greater extent than I even imagined.
