Authorities sought to arrest the mother of a 13-year-old boy with cancer who refuses chemotherapy after she fled with her son and missed a court hearing Tuesday on his welfare. A judge issued an arrest warrant and ordered that Daniel Hauser be placed in a foster home and be sent for an immediate examination by a pediatric oncologist so he can get treated for Hodgkins lymphoma.

And yet other chowder skulls sitting on the bench have ruled parents don't have a right to know if their young daughter wants an abortion, etc..

Go figure.

it sounds like this mother is a whack job...sorry, but she really appears to be out of line...the kid can’t read at 13 and she’s in with some nutty “natural spiritual” cult giving the kid vitamins and water???

I defend parents rights, except when they are mentally unhinged and damaging the child.

I’m not sure that G-d would rather you let your child die, than take advantage of the knowledge that he allowed health care professionals to gather. I am a believer and I believe in prayer. I pray for the patients that I take care of and even sometimes WITH them. My advice would be... to pray for healing and take advantage of science, too.

In this case the judge is right. The boy has a 95% chance of a cure if he receives the chemo. If not he has a 5% chance of survival. I read an article where the parents said that if the herbal treatment doesn’t work, then the boy will have died for a purpose having brought attention to their religious movement. They are not acting in their sons best interest.

But is it the government’s right/duty to demand/dictate how you live [or die]?

Well, I guess if the parents are beating their son to death the “govt’ shouldn’t interfere either....sorry, but we aren’t small enclaves of pioneers living in the backwoods...we are no longer tiny communities that look out for the children.

Science and its benefits are a gift from God and this woman is a loon...she has every right to be a loon for herself, but not to “murder’ a child with her “looniness”. The govt is the society and in this case it is WE who are trying to protect this child. Freedom is precious, but total, irresponsible ‘freedom’ is anarchy.

So a minor has the option of refusing treatment?

No but the government does have the right to protect children from abuse. There are not many cases where I would feel that a judge has a right to tell parents what to do with their child. This judge heard several doctors say that the mothers treatment will give the boy a 5% chance of survival. The chemotherapy will give the boy a 95% chance of survival. He is 13 years old and cannot read.

This mother is going to kill this boy unless the judge intervenes. I think that qualifies as abuse.

The parents belong to a group, the Nemenhah Band, that follows the same practices (regarding medicine) as the Apostolic Charismatic Church of the First Born. The Nemenhah Band claims to be an Educational Auxiliary of The Oklevueha Native American Church of Sanpete.

Then, we get to the heart of things. The Articles of Incorporation of Oklevueha Native American Church state:

, "Oklevueha Native American Church accepts peyote as central to its extablished rligious belief. Peyote is the significant sacrament for this church. However, Oklevueha Native American Church honors North and South American native Eucharists, such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Tsi-Ahga, Wine, and etc."

In addition, this crowd is into the Book of Hagoth, supposedly the accounts of a man named in the Book of Mormon.

The FLDS, who we've discussed to a substantial degree earlier, do not appear to be "into Hagoth" ~ which is probably all to the good (if you were looking for anything good in this crowd). Still, their "ranch" there in Texas sits smack dab in the center of the largest peyote cactus growing area in the world.

These groups, if you dig just far enough (which is not too far at all) have something in common ~

His mom apparently agrees, or else why does she have a warrant for her arrest for taking the child?

Let me see
In America it is okay and LEGAL for a mother to kill her unborn baby and in fact her born baby if the abortion is botched. And
In America it is not okay or LEGAL for a mother to refuse medical treatment for her son on religious grounds or any grounds for that matter.
What a sickupside down country we have become.

Of course not. I’m asking that question only to find out what it is you are defending here ~ peyote use or parental “rights”, etc.

BTW, I don’t agree with the law regarding abortion. In fact, I disagree with parents killing their kids at any stage of development.

Parental rights moreso, though I have to say I’m becoming more and more repulsed to the idea of the government living my life for me.

I would take my kid and go to Germany for treatment - where doctors do more than prescribe drugs.

"This judge heard several doctors say that the mothers treatment will give the boy a 5% chance of survival.

No. Ma's following the BS peddled by some guy that's been released from prison out west for peddling the same fraud.

"The chemotherapy will give the boy a 95% chance of survival."

At least.

" He is 13 years old and cannot read."

That's sad. The parents are worthless.
