Gov. Tim Pawlenty's bold move to single-handedly fix the $2.7 billion hole in the state budget was an important policy decision. "It's not an option. It's a duty," he said Tuesday at a Capitol news conference. But it also was a risky gamble for his political future. He will be blamed if his budget cuts cause widespread pain and damage the state's financial health. But he will be credited as a strong leader if restraining state spending holds down taxes and restores fiscal stability. Pawlenty won't announce whether he'll run for a third term until later this year. And he remains coy about his national political aspirations although he rarely turns down a chance to appear on cable TV shows. During his news conference, he declined to talk about his political future.

GOOD JOB GOVERNOR!
The budget is a target rich environment for a spending slasher. Throw a dart at it. Cut whatever it hits.
The libs in my office are all upset about Pawlenty taking control of this. Feels good to have them on the backfoot.
they get to bitch and moan for another month...my understand is nothing can be officially “unalloted” until July 1, when their little grubby fingers divy up the loot.
never understood why bills banning cocoa bean mulch and other silly crap get priority, but the budget waits till last.
stupid DFL’rs.
Stay put! RINO’s are a good fit in MN.
And why exactly is Pawlenty a RINO? please spare me the ‘he disagrees with me on issue x’. Thats a fine enough reason for you to not like or vote for him but to be a Rino it better be more than cap and trade.
