A barge crew discovered the remains of what is described as a smallish female wearing underwear in the Des Plaines River. A source told the Joliet (Ill.) Herald News that DNA testing will likely be needed to identify the body. Relatives of Stacy Peterson, who lived in nearby Bolingbrook, Ill., have been contacted by state police regarding the discovery. Stacy was the fourth wife of ex-Bolingbrook cop, Drew Peterson, who remains in custody on charges that he killed his third wife Kathleen Savio. Stacy has been missing since Oct. 28, 2007.
THis story is much like that other Peterson murder...
Wow, they just arrested him for the death of wife number 3 wierd time for this to happen.
Well it may be her, or he may have put her body elsewhere!
Droop Peterson is way to smug for that to be Stacy. Whatever he did with her he is positive she wont be found.
If I had to guess, I’d say it’s not her. I think if she was in the river she would have appeared before, There are better places to hide her.
I’m hope I’m wrong.
Totally agree. Who better than a policeman to know where to hide a body?
Unfortunately there are a lot of young women who go missing in the US every year, it could be any one of them.
The one that had been down for five years was in a car and was entirely bone fragments. If she hadn't been in a car, there's no way she would have been found.
A good place would be in a car in an auto junkyard where they are crushed. Or a steel mill.
But if she were in the blue barrel and the lid came off ala Lacey Petersen, the body might be more preserved???
I think most Americans would be shocked to know just how many people run away or are lost in a year.
From what had been reported on WLSAM890, the head and torso were not there and all they had was a badly decomposed lower half. I don’t know what’s left as far as genitals or pelvis after 18-24 months, but they did report the body was female.
I added the 24 months in because of missing Lisa Stebic of nearby Plainfield.
Dumping someone in a river will decompose and spread the body quickly, but it will surface in a couple of days, before it has time to decompose and be consumed. They're more buoyant than most people think. They'll float cinderblocks, chains and small anchors. Encasing them preserves them in one place, though. Fortunately, I've never had to hide a body, so I haven't thought too much about how I'd do it.
Could also be Lisa Stebic, who was missing the year before the announcement of Stacy’s disappearance.
Again, on that end, I'm getting out of my depth. The five year old body we found, we identified through the license tag on the car, and the owner had been missing for five years. Not exactly rocket surgery.
“A good place would be in a car in an auto junkyard where they are crushed. Or a steel mill.”
Better yet would be a grease rendering plant and she would have been sold for lanolin years ago and women all over the country would have smeared her all over themselves!
Just read over at websleuths.com that the body was found in a container. Sounds more and more like the Petersen case.
The people who found it supposedly found a blue barrel nearby.
maybe it is a girl he dated but we never heard about.
Years ago I knew a very unscrupleous guy that owned a large grease rendering plant in Los Angeles and he skimmes off the lanolin and sold it for cash but everything he threw in the vats came out either grease or ewar=ter. The only thing that survived was pig hair.
He was so crooked that his fleet of semis were all made from glider kits with engines, trans, and running gear was all from stolen rigs.
It wouldn’t suprise one bit if Hoffa wasn’t run through his plant!
If true, that sounds like this may be her.
Everybody knows that Hoffa is in the footings of Giants Stadium.
Why would they weaken the foundation when he could be softening womens skin!
And, of course, I have no idea as to the veracity of the reports I’m hearing ...
It’s anyone’s guess, but I think it might be her. IIRC Lisa Stebic was on the tall side, and these bones are described as those of a petite woman.
Wow. Four wives. I wonder how many people get away with this stuff.
An ABC affiliate claims to have confirmed the blue barrel story, and actually photographed the barrel.
another true crime to follow....that and that Coleman creep.....unbelivable....
I am down here in Casey Anthony territory. The world is going to hell!
Yet this story says there was no barrel:
At the same time supposedly news reports showed a deteriorated barrel.
Louisiana swamps, chainsaw, alligators..

Crest Hill - An autopsy is scheduled on badly decomposed human remains found in suburban Chicago on the banks of the Des Plaines River. Illinois State Police Sgt. Tom Burek says the Will County coroner will perform the autopsy this morning.
The discovery yesterday prompted speculation the remains were related to a couple of long-running, high-profile missing persons cases in Will County. Burek declined to say if the body was male or female.
He says he won’t speculate about whether the remains belong to Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic, two missing Will County women whose cases have garnered national attention.
Peterson’s husband, Drew Peterson, is scheduled to appear in court today on charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Stebic was last seen in Plainfield in April 2007.
I googled their heights, and both women are listed as 5’ 2”, including at the websites set up to help find them. Of course, the average American woman per the CDC is a little under 5’ 4” , so the cadaver not only could be either of them, it could be any one of thousands of missing girls/women. Personally, I believe Stacy Peterson’s body was dismembered and then the parts destroyed as completely as possible...No way would Drew Peterson leave an intact cadaver to be found. I’d be delighted to be proven wrong, though!
Thanks for checking this out further.
I am not clear on whether the remains found were an intact skeleton or just parts of one.
Com’on a body does not survive 2 and half years in water. There would be only bones left and they would be scattered unless there was no current. This is the corpse of a more recent tragedy.
Stacy was sealed in the blue barrel. A blue barrel was found nearby that had burst open.
It’s possible but I’m realistic.
Autopsy inconclusive. Weeks before DNA results:

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) Authorities say DNA tests show a headless, armless skeleton found along the Des Plaines River last week was from an unidentified male.
Speculation had swirled about whether the badly decomposed body was one of two women whose disappearances have drawn national media attention.
Illinois State Police said in a statement Wednesday that an investigation to identify the remains is under way.
The Will County coroner has said the person was dead for several months or more. Results of an autopsy last week were inconclusive, and DNA tests were conducted.
The location of the remains in Will County prompted speculation they were related to the high-profile missing persons cases of Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic.
