In the old days there wouldn’t had been any quibbling. He would had been strung up and made an example of. Afterwhich, the body would be cut down and put in a common grave.

I think the jury made a mistake here. Given the type of crime and the terror this animal caused, I don't see the need for Mercy. And I'm tired of being told “he is not responsible”. I'm sorry for the 14 yr old and her family. Not this piece of slime.

While I do have a lot of sympathy for our men who go through terrible times, I don’t think I’d excuse them for raping young girls and committing murder.
He deserves to pay for his crimes, and the death penalty seems fitting here.

UCMJ - The maximum penalty for rape IS death.
Maybe that is why they got this into civilian courts, because they could play the ‘mentally unstable’ / ‘personality disorder’ card.
Screw that, the guy should have hung for his crime.

This guy is a monster. No need to keep him alive. Crimes that horrific require an equally horrific punishment. Death.

You can make a defense for killing civilians in a war zone in a fit of combat induced rage. Killing is a part of war, men can get caught up in that. In this case though, even that defense doesn’t hold up well. Then there is the matter of rape. Rape has nothing to do with combat. He should have been tried and hung swiftly while still in country. The Iraqi family should have been invited to watch.

Western Kentucky says it all as far as I am concerned. The killer got a fair trial. And they did spare his life.
