Did Adam Lambert's Sexuality Cost Him American Idol Title? (Here it comes)
US Magazine ^ | May 21, 2009

Posted on 05/22/2009 6:16:06 AM PDT by Pinkbell

That's the argument raging online.

"It's difficult not to wonder if Lambert's sexuality played a role in Allen's victory," the Chicago Tribune's TV critic writes. "Though he never said whether he was gay, pictures of Lambert kissing other men appeared on the Internet during Season 8.

"If Lambert's popularity on Idol was any indication of how tolerant and accepting America has become, his loss may indicate there's still further to go," continues the Tribune writer.

Adds pro poker player (and recent Celebrity Apprentice runner-up) Annie Duke: "I seriously think Adam lost just because he is gay. Bummed. Bummed. Bummed."

Blog Examiner.com labels Lambert as "polarizing," stating: "Adam was too gay for America."

Lambert once again dodged questions on how his sexuality may have played into the results.

When asked his thoughts about blogs saying, 'If he wins [it's] because he's gay, or if he loses [it's] because he's gay,' Lambert told reporters jokingly: "Is that what they're gonna say? Those blogs have a lot of opinions, don't they? I think that Kris won because he's a great artist and I was happy to be a runner-up to that.

"If there's anything that can come from this experience, and I hope that all the fans out there can pick up on, is that even if you're really different, there's a way to get along with each other," Lambert continued. "And it's not about 'Oh, you beat me because of this,' or 'You, you're different.' It's about finding the common stuff that makes it work."

Ryan Seacrest pointed out on May 13's episode that, of the 88 million votes cast that week, only 1 million separated Allen and Lambert. In an Usmagazine.com poll of 84,000 readers Tuesday, the contestants were virtually tied.

I did read this finale was the second lowest in terms of viewers. Ironically, the most votes were cast.

They still do well compared to the competition though, right? It seems like it anyway.

AI provides an opportunity for new talent to get into the business. The singers have ranged from hard rock to balladeers to country to R&B.

Some very talented people have emerged from the competiton. Underwood, Hudson, Daughtry, Hudson nost notable. They sing 4 different and distict styles of music.

Three others of the singers have been in hit broadway productions and road shows. One of them is still on Broadway in a lead role.

The highlights of this year for me were the soulful performance of a 16 year old girl with great pipes and the night the final five all sang pop tunes from the Sinatra era. They all nailed it IMO.

Perhaps you sodered your ear drums too soon or you just can't find a genre you like. It's all right in front of you.

The bottom line is that pre-teen and early teen girlies don’t like sissy boys. They are the ones that vote the most.

I don't know, but what does it matter? People tend to like the art that reaffirms them and their world-view. And “taste” is as subjective a matter as anything on Earth.

What I mean is that artists and intellectuals can talk about techniques and phrasing or color or themes, or whatnot, but in the end, you either like something or you don't, whatever the reasons. And you can like something more than something else.

And while other people's opinions may be more knowledgeable, nuanced or sophisticated than yours, you are the one that gets to choose what YOU like.

What's Cowell trying to do anyway? Educate the American public, or make a potful of money?

I share your feelings about that. It incenses me to no end hear tone-deaf idiots gargling our National Anthem as though it were a throat-clearing exercise between drags on a bong.

Or, on the other hand, signing it as if it were a damned funeral dirge! I say, sing it as if you're Francis Scott Key, anxiously awaiting news of the battle's outcome.

OMG, he would have won by Reagan numbers! I mean according to Oprah, the MSM and Hollywood, the One would have been voted in with that “mandate” that they are shelling out with a 53% victory!

Because according to those three above, Amerika is 73.2% gays or gay sympathizers - I mean only us RADICAL, Bible clinging, gun toting, teabagging rednecks would have voted against him!

It wouldn’t bother me in the least if his sexuality did cost him the title. I’d consider it a good sign that enough people are still repulsed by perverted sexual being flaunted in front of them.

74 posts and you are the first one to connect the Miss USA debacle with this particular controversy. The entertainment industry is forcing the gay lifestyle on the rest of us. You can’t get away from it unless you turn off the TV/Radio. Unfortunately, our school-age children can’t evade it.

You have got to see this.

Adam Lambert 9 years ago. I wouldn’t have even imagined it was the same guy.

The 38 million stat was debunked. Apparently a local Fox affiliate somewhere just made that number up.

Its all about the money. Adam may have lost because he was so openly Gay. He could have hid his sexuality but he didn’t. He could have been photographed with women, he could have been seen kissing girls, he could even have disclosed that he had a ‘girl Friend’ But he didn’t do these things. In a way its better he didn’t win. Now we have two winners—one a wholesome Christian ballad singer and the other a Glam rock singer. Both will provide lots of music for the world and make Simon Fuller even richer. Of the two—Adam L. has the most talent and can do both songs and stage work. Kris has the potential to be a new John Denver. Gay or Not gay really isn’t the answer here. America just isn’t ready for an openly gay winner not on American Idol or in the White House.

It was better yet when Chuck Barris hosted it and Jaye P. Morgan would ring the big bell thing when she didn't like an act. .

AGREED! The Gong Show was one of the first shows that I still remember seeing on TV as a youth. If you get a chance to see the reruns, you really see how much coke Chucky Baby was snorting at the time.

I’m conservative and I voted for Adam, the first time I’ve ever voted for anyone. Who can I blame for his loss? These libs are mental.

I believe you're thinking of "The Gong Show", one of the greatest displays of the essence of America ever produced.

It made me proud to be an American.
