Did Adam Lambert's Sexuality Cost Him American Idol Title? (Here it comes)
US Magazine ^ | May 21, 2009

Posted on 05/22/2009 6:16:06 AM PDT by Pinkbell

That's the argument raging online.

"It's difficult not to wonder if Lambert's sexuality played a role in Allen's victory," the Chicago Tribune's TV critic writes. "Though he never said whether he was gay, pictures of Lambert kissing other men appeared on the Internet during Season 8.

"If Lambert's popularity on Idol was any indication of how tolerant and accepting America has become, his loss may indicate there's still further to go," continues the Tribune writer.

Adds pro poker player (and recent Celebrity Apprentice runner-up) Annie Duke: "I seriously think Adam lost just because he is gay. Bummed. Bummed. Bummed."

Blog Examiner.com labels Lambert as "polarizing," stating: "Adam was too gay for America."

Lambert once again dodged questions on how his sexuality may have played into the results.

When asked his thoughts about blogs saying, 'If he wins [it's] because he's gay, or if he loses [it's] because he's gay,' Lambert told reporters jokingly: "Is that what they're gonna say? Those blogs have a lot of opinions, don't they? I think that Kris won because he's a great artist and I was happy to be a runner-up to that.

"If there's anything that can come from this experience, and I hope that all the fans out there can pick up on, is that even if you're really different, there's a way to get along with each other," Lambert continued. "And it's not about 'Oh, you beat me because of this,' or 'You, you're different.' It's about finding the common stuff that makes it work."

Ryan Seacrest pointed out on May 13's episode that, of the 88 million votes cast that week, only 1 million separated Allen and Lambert. In an Usmagazine.com poll of 84,000 readers Tuesday, the contestants were virtually tied.

You're right. Mariah Carey might be the worst, although Celine Dion is certainly a qualifier (as is Babs Streisand). I'd rather scoop out my eardrums with a teaspoon than listen to any of that overwrought, self-indulgent crap, wherein the "artist" turns every single note into a scale or an arpeggio that seems to go on longer than did the Clinton Administration.

John Lee Hooker, OTOH, is "The Man". Buddy Guy is pretty good, too. Boom Boom.

Just get a California judge to throw the results out as unconstitutional. /s

No, he lost because there were 38 million votes from Kris Allen’s home state of Arkansas, which has a population of less than 3 million...

We're kinda proud of Kris. ;-)

I agree with you, on pure talent this guy was garbage. IN fact what I saw of all the competitors was pretty bad honestly.

I also noticed that neither finalist was a female! It’s misogynistic!
And both finalists were white! Racist!
And they were both young! Age discrimination!
Unless the contest is won by a black lesbian in a wheelchair, I’m calling the ACLU!

If range were the only criterion, Yma Sumac would’ve been bigger than Sinatra. All he has is top end clarity, without warmth or a sense of phrasing.

Not only is Idol a singing contest, Idol is an exercise in achieving the American Dream.

Really? The American Dream is to go to Hollyweird and waste our God-given talents on trash and debauchery?

That's not a dream I'd wish on my worst enemy.

I didn’t watch the show this year, but I understand how it works.

Adam, gay or not, made it to #2.
He survived elimination after elimination after elimination.

If he was eliminated based on his sexuality, it seems to me that he would have been eliminated much earlier.

I find this particularly galling when it's done to the national anthem.

I think that in his market (LA) he’s been able to make a living with the persona and the range, so he hasn’t had to develop the rest. He has all the sensitivity of Axl Rose.

That was the good old Gong Show. One of my favorites with Gene Geene the Dancing Machine and the Unknown Comic.

Geddy Lee? The Canadian warbler?
Listen to Bocelli and find real music. These others only have parts down.

The decadence and depravity of the national media continues apace. When not slandering 22 year old beauty queens for daring to dissent from the celebration of sexual deviance, our media searches breathlessly for evidence of intolerance against the latest protected class. It seems every editor in America is now driven to the homosexual agenda. How did this happen? Is there no way we can recover a climate of wholesomeness and normalcy for our children?

It’s not like these guys were applying for an accounting job. This contest was purely about subjective personal preferences in style. If you criticize the people who participated in the voting for not picking the gay man, you are saying that America isn’t gay enough yet and that’s a bad thing. What a bigoted attitude.

I remember that. As a country music fan, I was not fond at all of that performance.

There’s also the probability that a number of voters decided their vote was payback for Perez Hilton’s treatment of Carrie Prejean.

Hey, it all equals out! Carrie Prejean... got shafted for her religious beliefs & semi booby shot, so why not Adam Lambert with his creepy smirk, eyebrows and black fingernails smooching with guys?

Did you ever notice that it is only OUR National Anthem that these "artists" screw up with their "personal interpretations?"

Never hear anybody customize "Oh Canada" "God Save the Queen" or "Rule Britannia."
