Fortunately, barley (and malt extract) are still relatively cheap, as is brewer’s yeast, exclusive of the high-end stuff. Hops have always been pricey, but I help defray that cost by growing some of my own.

and roll your own tobacco USED to be cheap..

again I say, just wait for the huge tax increases on ingredients..

I used to brew my own beer. Works out to about $2 a case for real good stuff made from the better malts and hops and some honey to make a real good dark ale.
