Gates WAS a Bush-era official. He IS an Obama-era official. So he might be a bit compromised in what he can say.
As for Ridge, he's been a disappointment for a long time now. I'd be more surprised if he stood up for Bush and Cheney at this point.

He's a government whore who would rather throw this country down the tubes than speak the truth about the state of our national security under his lord and master. He's in it for the money, nothing else.
