Mimi Beardsley Alford, a retired New York church administrator who had an affair with John F. Kennedy while she was an intern in the White House, is breaking a silence of more than 40 years to tell her story in a memoir to be published by Random House.
Ms. Alford’s secret was initially divulged six years ago when a biography of Kennedy was published with portions from a 1964 oral history that described the president’s 18-month sexual affair with a young intern named Mimi Beardsley. The Daily News tracked her down and discovered that she was Marion Fahnestock, who was divorced, working for the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and living in Manhattan. At the time, she gave a short statement confirming that she was “involved in a sexual relationship” with Kennedy from June 1962 to November 1963.
Ms. Alford, 66, who in the years since the disclosure had married Richard Alford, a former sports marketing executive, has not spoken about her affair since the statement. Before that, she had not even told her parents or her children. Now she is working on a memoir, to be titled “Once Upon a Secret,” about the consequences of hiding such an explosive past for so long.

And as a result she would be more likely to be eagerly available to "service" JFK whenever he decided he was in the mood. Much like Monica. A beautiful woman would have more pride (and better options).

In the Bahamas, Mimi was spotted by aides after the Macmillan summit hiding in one of the cars waiting to take the president to the airport. According to the transcript, "they walked over and looked in the car and here seated on the floor was Mimi."Two points:The aides said nothing and neither did the press, who knew all about JFK's girls. Mrs Gamarekian said at the time: "This is the sort of thing that legitimate newspaper people don't write about or don't even make any implications about. It was kind of a big joke."
(1)Would a confident, self-assured woman hide on the floor of a limo, patiently waiting to service her married employer? And be SEEN by co-workers doing so, and still continue, knowing that the people around her saw her as nothing more than a disposable concubine?
(2)Given the degree of complicity of the press in covering up for JFK, Clinton, and other Democrat presidents, what credibility should they expect from us?
Oh, good observation. The article did not mention if the woman was attending college or not. To speculate: she graduated from Miss Porter’s and took the internship before going on to college?
I think it probably depended on the circumstances. An old friend of mine was a young girl back then, whose father was in JFK’s administration. She visited the White House with her family, and Kennedy offered to show her something in his bedroom. He cornered her in there, and wouldn’t take no for an answer, until she very cleverly thought to tell him, sorry, she was having her period. Then he let her go. Otherwise, he was the president, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Sounds a lot like Bill Clinton.
Sort of like LBJ: "Move over, darlin', this is your president speaking."
My next door neighbor for thirty years on Cape Cod "entertained" Saint Jack's security detail whenever they were in town. Quite a character with some great stories.
