Iran general says could stop Israel in 'one strike'
Breitbart ^ | 5/24/2009 | AFP

Iran's former Revolutionary Guards chief Mohsen Rezai warned on Sunday he could stop Israel with "one strike" and said it would not dare to threaten the Islamic republic if he is elected president.

"My government... understands missiles and tanks as well as foreign policy and knows exactly where Israel's sensitive spots are. It could stop them forever with one strike," Rezai told a news conference.

"If government falls into our hands Israel will not dare threaten Iran because the Israelis and the Americans know us and our friends," said Rezai, who is one of three candidates challenging President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the June 12 election.

Yeah right.
They couldn’t stop Iraq in TEN YEARS, but they could stop Israel in one strike - who actually did attack Iraq very successfully - destroying the Osirak reactor permanently.

Unnecessarily scatological language -- not suitable for FR.

Grow up and knock it off.

Basically Israel can inflict *some* damage to Iran, but the retaliation would be unacceptable. Israel is a sitting duck for Iranian missiles (even if half of them fail.)

Israel has anti-ballistic missile defenses. Arrow and Patriot. Iran doesn't have very many missiles, yet anyway, and the chances of destroying them on the ground or after launch are still pretty high. Also they don't have that many, if any, nukes, yet. The chances of an Israeli first strike getting them all, plus the supporting infrastructure is pretty good. Time in not their side however. As the Iranians get more missiles, and more warheads, both nuclear and other, the chances of one or more getting through in either a first or second strike gets higher, even if Israel adds to the number of it's anti-missile systems.

Yes Iran has a lot more people, but most of them are crowded into a few relatively small areas as well, if Israel wanted to kill them, which they likely do not, they just want to decapitate their government and destroy it's ability to destroy Israel. It's not like the Iranians are going march across Iraq and Jordan/Syria to attack Israel on the ground, so their raw manpower doesn't really count for much.

Iran does not need nuclear weapons to inflict unacceptable damage to Israel

Um... yes it does.
Realistically, it has little ability to project force, let alone overwhelming force, and the logistics are not in their favor.

That is why they use and fund proxies and terror groups.

Iran is also surrounded by Israel delivery mechanisms.
I doubt they’d want to risk nuclear attack either.

I can’t believe any leader of Israel would want to
go down in history as the guy that allowed another
holocaust.
