FLASHBACK: 'He Is Latino' (Why Dems ***ked Estrada, in Their Own Words)
Wall Street Journal ^ | Saturday, November 15, 2003

SNIP

This plunge into the murky deep comes from staff strategy memos we've obtained from the days when Democrats ran the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2001-02. Or, rather, appeared to run the committee. Their real bosses are the liberal interest groups that more or less tell the Senators when to sit, speak and roll over--and which Bush judges to confirm or not. Here are some excerpts:

November 6, 2001/To: Senator Dick Durbin
"You are scheduled to meet with leaders of several civil rights organizations to discuss their serious concerns with the judicial nomination process. The leaders will likely include: Ralph Neas (People For the American Way), Kate Michelman (NARAL), Nan Aron (Alliance for Justice), Wade Henderson (Leadership Conference on Civil Rights), Leslie Proll (NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund), Nancy Zirkin (American Association of University Women), Marcia Greenberger (National Women's Law Center), and Judy Lichtman (National Partnership). . . .

". . . The primary focus will be on identifying the most controversial and/or vulnerable judicial nominees. The groups would like to postpone action on these nominees until next year, when (presumably) the public will be more tolerant of partisan dissent."

November 7, 2001/To: Senator Durbin
"The groups singled out three--Jeffrey Sutton (6th Circuit); Priscilla Owen (5th Circuit); and Caroline [sic] Kuhl (9th Circuit)--as a potential nominee for a contentious hearing early next year, with a [sic] eye to voting him or her down in Committee. They also identified Miguel Estrada (D.C. Circuit) as especially dangerous, because he has a minimal paper trail, he is Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court appointment. They want to hold Estrada off as long as possible."

With the nomination of Judge Sotomayor by Obama to the Supreme Court today, a reminder of how Democrats truly see Latinos--not as human beings deserving of respect but as political tools to be promoted or stonewalled depending the Democrats' needs at the time.

Unfortunately, that’s how they see everyone . . . to be used and abused for their own empowerment

If you asked a liberal (drugged up with truth serum), you would hear this...

“You just don’t understand (finger waging like Dr. Evil). The problem with Estrada is that he’s not one of OUR TYPE of Latinos...just like Thomas isn’t one of OUR TYPE of blacks.”

“Same color but different perspectives, judicial philosophies and programming”.

This nomination is PRECISELY why I used the word "Bigot" in my first article about OBama filling the Souter seat. Sotomayor is a self-pronounced bigot who does not belong on any court, including traffic court.

I’ll not forget what they despicably did to
Miguel Estrada ... their mission being to
scourge Pres. Bush.

Let’s see if there’s any Pubbie with guts on
the Judiciary Committee who’ll puncture their
overarching partisanship by refreshing some
memories.

Jeff Sessions .... give ‘em hell.

Yes, kristinn. I thought of Estrada today when BO’s announcement was hailed by the ASS press...

Certainly only thinking people will bring this subject to the fore. In that respect, don’t expect it to be broached by the media or the Democrats.

For the better part of three years the Dems let Estrada twist in the wind, never even giving him the opportunity of a floor vote. Today B Hussein Obama is praised for nominating a Hispanic. It makes me sick!

Thanks for mentioning Sessions ... I might just give him a call, in addition to my own two Pubbie senators.

political ideology will always trump color, race, or gender. Hey, when will Obama decide they need a gay justice if Stevens croaks or Ginsburg has to retire for health reasons (she isn’t that old)? I know very few gay folks on the conservative side anyway.

Jeff Sessions .... give ‘em hell.

I have got my fingers crossed. She bad enough to go after without damaging themselves. And if reports are true, she is a pushy, loud mouthed bully in addition to being a judicial activist.

It’s unlikely to materialize, but the GOP only needs to get this nominee to lose her temper in the confirmation hearings and her lack of judicial temperament will be clear to all.

I just fired off an email to my Senator, Mitch McConnell, beseeching him and the other Republicans, to rediscover a backbone and vociferously object to the appointment of the most activist person ever nominated to the Supreme Court.
