In reporting on the contretemps between former Vice President Dick Cheney and Colin Powell, The New York Times continues its longstanding agenda to get the Republican Party to move to the left.
In yesterday’s paper, The Times reported on Powell’s Sunday appearance on “Face The Nation,” where the former Secretary of State boldly declared “I am still a Republican” (despite having endorsed Barack Obama) and called for an “after-action review” of GOP losses in the last election.
“Mr. Powell’s appearance underlined an extraordinary public struggle among Republicans over the future of the party,” The Times informed us in the hushed tones of revelation.
What struggle? Colin Powell is about as representative of the Republican Party as Ben Stein is of Hollywood.
Powell has never held public office or been a candidate. Whenever the opportunity to run arose, Powell declined. Besides serving in Congress and as Secretary of Defense for Bush ‘41, Dick Cheney was vice president for 8 years.
Whatever The Times imagines, the Republican Party has no Colin Powell wing.
The so-called moderate, Northeast Republicans (little liberals) are on the verge of extinction. Where “moderate” Republicans once held the governorships of New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, all are now in Democratic hands.
Since 1976, the only time the GOP has won the White House is with a conservative, or a candidate who could credibly put himself forth as a conservative. John McCain lost because, after 20 years of doing the bidding of The New York Times, he couldn’t plausibly run as a conservative last year. It’s revealing that even McCain wasn’t enough of a “moderate” to suit Powell.
The Times would like to see the Republican Party become a faint echo of the Democrats. It won’t happen. Other than in the liberal media, there is no internal power struggle in the GOP. The fate of Powell’s version of Republicanism was decided decades ago.

What is with all this move to the left or move to the rights stuff? What every happened to sticking to one’s beliefs?
Well, I could trash the left a lot more if the Republican Party leadership didn’t want the same thing.
And that’s our number one problem these days.

The GOP is a sham party which only exists to provide an illusion of choice. Conservatives and libertarians have no political voice in the USSA. Separation is the only answer.

the moderates in the GOP seem to want elections to be about personalities than issues. Where does Powell stand on anything? They don’t seem to care.
The after-election review that Powell wants will show that the squishy conservatism that Powell advocates gets crushed in elections. Colin, you’re part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Of course they do; they want the Liberal party, and the Communist party.
There is no struggle. Unless elected members return to following and upholding the definitions spelled out in the party's constitution, they will drive the party into irrelevance and be replaced by a new conservative movement which will draft up a party constitution reflecting the origional principles which attracted them to the Republican party in the first place.
Or, the RINO's will be kicked out by it's grass roots membership and Republicans who do read the party's constitution will be elected to replace them.
That means the old and fugly MacCain's, Powell, etc. will have to join the Democrat party because they are in violation of their membership obligations and the constitution of the Republican party.
All we really need to do is enforce the party rules and expell these RINO's.
But that means some ranking members have to find some GUTS, which they have been lacking for some years now.
Even Arnold Schwartzrino has the sense to realize we need a robust private sector to generate sufficient revenues to support the nanny state. Colin Powell has yet to figure that out.
NYT is a penny stock company of no importance.
Powell is a Democrat, and like most Democrats claiming to be liberal Republicans, he can’t support a single conservative policy that distinguishes Republicans from extremist Democrats.
Yeah, the NY Times also wants to stay in business. How’s that working out? Bwaa-ha-ha!

Colin Powell made his way from Captain to 4-Star General without leading a single man into battle, without seeing a single moment of combat. He did so by becoming the favorite token black of the Rockefeller RINOs thoughout the 1960s and 1970s. And then his ascent continued throughout the 80s and 90s, always as a so-called “Republican”—as he still insists he is today. However what “version” of a “Republican” votes for the most liberal Democrat Presidental candidate in American history?
One of many things that Colin Powell has in common with the really old grey lady.
John McLame was Colin's ideal GOP candidate. He still endorsed BO. Nuff said. Colin, come out of the closet and follow Snarlin'.
They stand directly in the path of which way the polls say the wind is blowing. In otherwords, they dance for the commie controllers of MSM.
That's why they continually ignore the will of grass root Republican party members. The GOP executive ignores the membership and keeps allowing these traitors to run as Republicans. Before we can rid the party of the RINO's that are destroying it, we have to get the RINO's out of the partys executive and replace them with people with a spine willing to enforce the party rules and stop these RINO's from running under the Republican name.
That's why, when people say they aren't going to renew their membership in the party until it returns back to the principles the republican party stands for, will be waiting a long time, because they are only giving more power and control to the RINO'S instead of using the voting power and voice of their membership to clean up the party.
Sitting around and waiting for someone else to do something is how Democrats operate, not Republicans. If you want to fix the problems in the party, get involved and make noise. The membership is supposed to run the party, not the party run the membership. If we leave everything under the control of just a few RINO'S, then they will continue to run the party to the left and into the ground.
Then they'll bail like Specter to the Democrats after they've destroyed the party.
