Justice Sotomayor: more for some, less for others?
BAPTIST PRESS ^ | Richard Land

--President Obama, while a presidential candidate, gave a very important speech (March 18, 2008) on race in America.

In that speech he said that "Most working- and middle-class white Americans don't feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race.... So when they ... hear that an African-American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed ... resentment builds over time."

Those were brave and important words for then-Sen. Obama to say. However, through close observation and experience I have learned to pay more attention to what President Obama does than to what he says.

The most recent case in point is his nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. As a federal judge, Ms. Sotomayor has been the poster child for President Obama's desire to have judges who will have empathy with some groups, which means less empathy for other groups. snip The best illustration of Judge Sotomayor's less-than-objective view of the law is her treatment of the Ricci v. DeStefano case. The Ricci case involves New Haven, Conn., firefighters (17 whites and 1 Hispanic) who scored highest on written exams but were not promoted because the city council feared being sued for racial discrimination because no black firefighters scored well enough to be promoted. The firefighters who were denied promotion filed a lawsuit claiming reverse discrimination.

When the case came before Judge Sotomayor, she rejected their claims in such a casual fashion that a fellow judge, Jose Cabranes (a Clinton appointee), severely criticized her and stated that "this perfunctory disposition rests uneasily with the weighty issues presented in this appeal." In other words, Judge Sotomayor gave the 18 deserving male firefighters the back of her judicial hand. CLICK LINK FOR FULL STORY PLEASE

This is truly insightful...

“”activism” requires a certain art — the ability to detect in 18th-century parchments that a bunch of guys in powdered wigs had cannily provided for partial-birth abortion or gay marriage or whatever. By contrast, “empathy” absolves you of the need to bother with any pretzel-like argument and lets you simply announce your bias, as Judge Sotomayor did in the Ricci case, like the schoolkid who knows the right answer but can't work out how to get to it.”

Sotomayor will be a politically safe vote for Obama and the socialist of the Democrat party

She could very well be a no lose candidate for the RAT party. She is a poison pill for Repubs with hispanics if they oppose her. If they dont we get a pro minority racist on the court. Win Win for the ObaMaster. If she loses he just appoints another one with even worse credentials.

Does the GOP have enough guts to oppose her?

“Does the GOP have enough guts to oppose her?”

Based on previous GOP gut checks I think not. Opposition has to be based on arguments of judical temperment. They have to stand up for the principal of Blind justice, not a=racially sensitive justice. They are going to be called racists no matter what they do. If they are smart they will point to their support of Thomas and OConner as showing they are not against minority candidates in general.

With Hispanics all the GOP would have to do is act like men, call the b***h a has been liberal idiot and move on, and from there they can garner their 40% of that race’s vote.

A most unexpected response. hopefully you have insight into the hispanic community that I lack.
There is something to be said for repubs showing confidence in their positions as a way to sway others. People follow confident leaders. One problem with the Repubs is that they are unsure mealy mouth wimps who seem almost apologetic for what they believe. Thats not the way to persuade people. The RATS are so confident in their idiotic positions that they froth at the mouth.

What Hispanic votes are Republicans getting? Those that they would get anyway.

This is a good question?

But a better one is: Who is the GOP and who the hell are we?

I think it is about time we take back our party people and start making some noise that not even the rinos can drown out.

The current GOP for the most part is no better than watching a sitcom on the TV.

Whats going to happen next????

I think it's time we take charge

agreed. Sotomayor has enough flaws that invite shooting down. I think there’s enough to shoot her down; the New Haven affirmative action case and her remarks about policy-making from the bench for starters.

but the ‘one’ is a smart SoB, for sure. Check out below reasons why this is a good political/power move for him:

1) Allows dhimmi talking heads to continue dictating to fractured pubbies about what they can/can’t say about this (race thing). So far, this may be backfiring - witness his press secretary warnings, and Conservative media fighting back with the ‘we can/may treat sotomayor the same way you treated Estrada” meme.

2) Continues winning this push if pubbies throw the towel in and don’t challenge. Strong possibility because we have such a bunch of pussies up there now.

3) if pubbies do challenge, allows jugenhund dhimmi attack dogs to continue with the same (and effective...) racist branding that was used in the general election —

4) if the pubbies do challenge, successfully market their brandname as not racist, and manage to peel blue dog dhimmi congressmen - all in the face of inevitable and repeated, BigLie “RACISTS” screams - it will cost them political (and financial...) capital.

5) and best part for the NIC (”narcissist”, not the other “N” word); if Sotomayor is shot down, he’s seen as having tried his best for his “brother” latinos, but can then put in a candidate that he really wants in there against now exhausted opposition.

What amazes me is what choosing such a weak candidate says about this man. So many things, notably that he doesn’t really care about Latinos, in the broadest sense of what a leftist paradigm defines a brother identity group allied against the archetypical “white man” to be. There are other, better qualified candidates with spanish surnames available. It says/reaffirms his inherent narcissism, not brooking any lights brighter than he in his firmament, allowing him to continue shining by comparison. It posits - if she passes the test - a weak and easily manipulated vote on the SC.

The man is cunning and ruthless.

I grew up with numerous first gen mexican-Americans and for the life of me I cannot remember them being like the sado-masochistic white liberals in anyway. They all played football if I remember right.
