just curious to the responses so far... why would we not want these people “re-integrated” into society? what good does ostracizing someone for life, someone who has paid the price designated by society? is that a “liberal” viewpoint??

does it make me “liberal” to think that a 19 yo who had sex with his 15 yo gf should not be labeled a “sex offender” for life?

if so, explain the conservative viewpoint to me, because i consider myself very conservative. thx.

Not only that, if we could get our uneducated guys to work a little, we wouldn’t need illegal immigrants.

I agree. You at least have to try the “carrot” and give them some incentive to get/stay on the straight and narrow.

I can see not trusting an ex-con 100% right off the bat, but allow him to earn it back.

So, you’re saying you’re 19 years old?

I think felons should not be a pariah for the rest of their lives.

If they remain clean for 5-10 years after they get out, their records should be sealed and all rights restored.

Because why try to come up with constructive solutions when it is easier to rip things apart while under the guise of being a righteous conservative?

Ok, most of the responses are due to the fact that people who haven't been in prison can't get jobs right now. How about hiring the productive members of society first and if you have any openings after that give an ex-con a job? I see nothing wrong with giving second chances. Depends on what the guy/gal was in for also.

Also, let's make it easier for school kids to get jobs, how about eliminating income taxes, how about getting government out of business? How about drilling for oil, natural gas and mining for coal? All of these things would stimulate job growth and there would be jobs for ex-cons, as well as for other people who want to work.

For this guy to act as if the only solution to ending crime, or reducing it, is to hire ex-cons is just stupid and invites ridicule, which is what the FReepers on this thread are doing and why they are doing it.

Many Freepers are perfect conservatives! If you do not agree 100% with many here, you are not a conservative in their eyes.

As for what the conservative views are here on FR, You have either true constitutionalists [who are the real true conservatives]. The constitutionalists as I call them are the most knowledgeable and often write the best posts.

Another group of conservatives on FR are these perfect social conservatives who support government restriction on many social issues, aka the moral police.

Also, You have the individuals who claim Ronald Regan was the best president ever and a conservative should support everything he stood for ... (except amnesty, which RR supported but many Freepers insist he wouldn't support it this day and age ... HA I know that's crap, RR realized this country was the best on the planet and if you wanted to better your life, you could come here. Thats what Regan believed in)

Another conservative definition floating around is more of an action: you have some Freepers who believe being a conservative means agreeing with everything everyone says all the time. Another small group believes being conservative means calling Liberals names all day long without adding any sort of argument against liberalism.

I'm more of a "constitutional" conservative, with strong view points on National security, low government debt, and smaller government with less laws (aka restrictions on liberty).

Personally, I have no problem hiring felons as long as they are not violent felons or sex offenders. Back 45 years ago people finding jobs were not held to such standards that they are today. There was no drug testing, there was no criminal background checks and NO CREDIT CHECKS. A felon could go get a job and work the rest of his life if he wanted to. Now if you get out of jail, you are penalized for life without ever being able to find steady work.

I hate listening to old FOSSIL Freepers demanding society act like they acted 50 years ago when the reality of the situation has changed. It was 100times easier getting jobs in the 60's and 70's then it is in the 90's and 2000's. I support people being given a second chance.

And the 19yo on 15yo example you bring up is a good example of how laws that are supposed to stop 40 to 50 year old men from molesting young kids are being used to arrest and ruin teenagers and very young adults lives forever.

What a Long Post! Ha. Sorry!
